THE CHIRPING OF HER CAR doors locking sounded through her ears. She pulled the black jacket tighter around her body as she balked towards the door. Her hands reached for the door knob, twisting it and pushing the door open. The smell of library books and a scented candle danced around her nostrils. She looked down at her watch seeing it was right o'clock. A sigh escaped her brown lips at the time, she didn't realize how late she was.
"You're here late." a modulated voice spoke. Kasia's attention was placed on the man with a caramel skin tone, brown blood-freckled eyes, timeworn face, and a salt and pepper beard. His name was Steve.
"I'm sorry,I didn't realize how late I was getting off of work." she informed him walking near the bookshelves . The man nodded his head as he pushed the cart that had books placed on it.
Kasia's eyes scanned the many books in front of her, trying to decide which one to get. This was the usual for her. After she got off work, she'd do her best to come to the library and get more books. From the time she was a kid,she was fascinated with books.
At times she found herself getting lost in books,it became an escape from her life. Her hands landed on a book that grabbed her attention, making her pick it up. Her hands rubbed over the title, her eyes filled with wonder.
"Steve,I'll take this one." she held it up. The man nodded his head and made his way behind the register.
Her black boots hit the brown, wooden floors as she walked to the register. She placed the book in his hand. As he scanned it,she reached into her purse getting the money out.
"You have a goodnight Steve." she smiled as he passed her the book.
"Same to you Kasia," he replied.
Kasia was now at home with the book in her hand. She yawned as her eyes became heavy from tiredness. She placed the book down on her bed and stood to stretch. That stretch felt so good, she thought.
Her feet, which were covered in socks, hit the floors as she walked to the kitchen. She flipped on the light, her eyes squinting from the light. Grabbing a glass, she opened the fridge and poured her some water.
She placed the glass towards her lips welcoming the drink. She hummed from the water being cold. She loved drinking cold water. She blew out a breath as she placed the glass in the sink.
A yawn released from her as she made it back toward her bed. She picked up the book and resumed reading. This was the con of reading a book, she'd start reading it and couldn't tour it down.
As she stared at the printed words, her eyes began to flutter. She shook her head in hopes of staying awake but gave up as sleep took over. Her eyes shut and the book fell out of hand.
The tussling of the wind surrounded her in the dark atmosphere. Chills spread through her body as she stood rooted to the spot. The bitter wind blew against her face, making her ache. Her sienna brown orbs stretched to see what was in front of her. Her mind went blank as she tried to figure out where she was. All she saw was darkness, nothing was clear. She wrapped her arms around herself.
The murmuring of a distant voice sounded through her ears. A gasp slipped out of her lips as she turned her body. Her eyebrows furrowed at seeing nothing.
She stopped in her tracks when her eyes landed on what looked like a figure. She tried to back away but it felt as if her shoes were glued down to the concrete. All she could do was stand there and look.
As her eyes locked in,she could see it was a man. The feeling of emptiness crept through her veins making her shiver. She could see the darkness and emptiness surrounding him.
Who was he and why was she here?
