The man returned. I smelled him the minute the latch opened and I heard him the instant his foot touched the first step.
"Ah, you're back. Did you do everything?"
"Yes. It's all taken care of and everything's ready for tonight. "
"Good. Now, I need you to question that thing. It's in the other room, take these or lose your life."
The next moments were silent, until footsteps began approaching the closet I had been shoved into. A man entered and closed the door behind him before meeting my gaze.
"So, you're a werewolf. I was expecting something more-"
"Cute," I supply.
"Demonic," the man corrected, quivering an eyebrow.
"We're only as evil as you make us to be."
"Fascinating. So how's life? Everything going well at home?"
"What are you, my shrink?" I rear back.
"If that's what you need from me, sure," he says with a small smirk. His baby blue eyes are glowing with mischief.
"No thanks. I'd rather just go home."
"No can do. I have to get some answers out of you and make sure you're not mentally scarred."
"Of course I'm mentally scarred. That brute kidnapped me out of my own home and locked me in a broom closet all day, but please tell me, what do you need to know?" I ask with a bite of sarcasm.
"He has his reasons."
"And what are yours?"
"Protecting my family."
"So you'll understand if I'm not compliant," I replied with a meaningful look.
"Of course, but that would just set yourself up for an execution. Now, I'd rather not take that route but it may become necessary."
"What exactly do you want to know?" I ask again. I've resigned myself to a more serious air and he seems to follow my lead.
"What was going on in the house the night you were taken?"
"Last night? Nothing much, we all had dinner as usual and went to bed."
"What made you leave your room?" The man asked.
"My friend and I heard a sound and went to investigate."
"And why is your friend not here with you?"
"She was behind me, then she wasn't. She probably went to get help."
"She was too much of a coward to stay with you?"
"I thought you were making sure my mental health was fine, not making me doubt my friendships." My frustration came back along with my sarcasm.
"I'm just making observations.
"I'd appreciate it if you stopped."
"Of course. Back to questioning then. Let's see," he said, pulling out a paper from his back pocket. My eyes follow his hand and catch on a device hanging off his belt.
"So you did it."
"What was that?"
"You attacked my brother."
"When?"
"About a week ago." He looked up thoughtfully, considering my statement, before slowly bringing his eyes back to mine.
"I wasn't here then. I arrived about three days ago."
"You have the same weapon that we found. It had to be you."
