The Best Friend

It was no secret that you and Sebastian Smythe were best friends. You had practically been attatched at the hip since the day you met. 

And to any outsider looking in, it seemed like the two of you were head over heels for each other.

But you weren't a couple.

Not by your own choosing though, since for over a year you had been harbouring feelings for your best friend.

But one day you decided that you had had enough of wondering.

Maybe it was a momentary lapse in judgement. But you decided that you were going to tell Sebastian how you felt.

So you sent a quick text:

Y/N - Hey Sebby, can we meet at The Lima Bean? I need to speak to you.

Within moments you had a reply.

Sebby - Of course darling, I have something I'd love for you to see.

The nickname 'darling' made your heart flutter. It had for as long as you could remember. It was just something that Sebastian did without thinking. But it meant something to you. 

And you were finally going to find out if it meant something to Seb too.

You were the first to arrive at The Lima Bean. So you sat in your normal booth, the one you and Sebastian always sat in for a post school coffee, and tapped your fingernails on the table nervously.

Then you saw Sebastian's car.

Your heart was beating so fast you thought it might explode through your rib cage.

You knew that something was about to change. No matter the outcome, your relationship with Sebastian may never be the same again.

You watched as he pulled into a car park space. You watched as he stepped out of the car and waved to you through the glass. But then you watched as he went round the other side of the car, opened the door for someone and held their hand the entire walk to the cafe.

It felt like someone had just punched you in the gut. They might just be friends...right?

So you plastered on a smile and welcomed them both into the booth. "Hi Sebastian and...Sebastian's friend. I don't think we've met. I'm Y/N, nice to meet you."

"Hi Y/N, I'm Alex, Sebastian's partner." Your heart sunk.

You felt yourself look over at Sebastian "Y/N this is what I wanted to tell you. Well...show you. I wanted my best friend to meet my partner."

The rest of the coffee meeting was uncomfortable to say the least. 

Sebastian and Alex holding hands under the table, sharing small kisses and inside jokes. It all felt like torture to you.

So when the time came for you to leave, you were thankful.

But Sebastian didn't hug you goodbye like he always did. He didn't walk you to your car like he always did. He didn't wait until he could see you got into the car and out of the car park safely. The familiar things all just seemed to slip away.

A/N - AAAAAAAA OMG I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN GONE FOREVER! Part 2 of this should hopefully be up tomorrow, but if not, hopefully by the end of the week! Should I do more sad imagines like this or do you prefer the happy ones?
