(Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time)
"Calli, wake up!" a voice yelled from outside of Calliope's hotel room door.
"Ugh, hang on, I'm coming," Calliope said. She slid out of the bed and rubbed her eyes, crossing the room to open the door. All of her friends were waiting on the other side of the door, dressed and ready to go for the day. "What's going on?" she asked them.
"Oh my gods, get dressed, Calli!" Nagaveni commanded in her best motherly voice.
"Yeah, ¿qué diablos?" Asmodeus questioned. "You're not dead yet, are you, Calli? No? Okay then, we're gonna spend the day together."
"What are we even doing?" Calliope inquired.
"Zeph's keeping the bar closed for the day so we can hang out," Amarok answered.
"Now, go get dressed!" Dysnomi exclaimed, practically shoving Calliope back into her room.
"Okay, okay. I'm going!" Calliope said defensively, throwing her hands up. She walked back into her hotel room to find an outfit that she could wear. She threw on a Nirvana t-shirt, a pair of ripped black skinny jeans, and a pair of white high-top Converse shoes. She pulled her turquoise hair into a messy bun on the top of her head, then applied a layer of mascara to her already-long lashes, and a layer of lip gloss to her plump lips.
When Calliope came back to the door, all of her friends either whistled at her or teased her.
Then, Nagaveni asked, "Okay, but seriously, Calli, how do you always look so... Effortlessly perfect?" She gestured her hands up and down toward Calliope as if to prove her point. Calliope noticed that she was picking at the bottom of her shirt when she spoke, and Calliope wondered why she was so nervous.
"You're one to talk, Nini," Calliope responded, pointing out Nagaveni's look, which comprised a loose t-shirt—which had the words 'ride or die' on it—a pair of light-blue mom jeans, and a pair of gray Nike's tennis shoes.
"Oh, thanks," Nagaveni said. She blushed and looked down at the floor.
"Ready to go?" Xena asked.
"I'm all good," Calliope answered.
As the group walked down to the hotel lobby, then toward the front door of the hotel, Calliope slowed her pace until she was walking next to Nagaveni.
"Are you doing okay, Calli?" Nagaveni questioned. Her eyebrows furrowed, making her appear concerned.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine. Um, here," Calliope said, shaking her head. She spoke quickly before she pulled out her hotel room key card and shoved it into Nagaveni's hands. "You should probably hold onto this."
"What? Why?" Nagaveni questioned.
"Just in case I don't make it back here. This way, you'll be able to get my stuff," Calliope answered with a shrug.
"Um, okay..." Nagaveni mumbled. She stuffed the card into her purse before speeding ahead so Asmodeus could stroll up next to Calliope.
Side-by-side, Calliope, and Asmodeus walked through the hotel's front door, following the rest of their group. Calliope stopped when she felt the warmth from the sun hit her face and body. She let it wash over her–the warmth comforting her and making her feel strong for a moment. Then, she threw her arms straight out to the sides, mimicking the Jesus pose that Dysnomi had stood in during Tartarus' opening night, which had been barely two weeks prior. She allowed her thoughts to wander, thinking to herself, I'm really gonna miss having the sun wash over me. At least, I think I'm gonna miss it, she thought. I don't actually know if you can feel anything when you're in Purgatory. A gentle tug on her hand brought her back to reality.
