"H-Headshot!"
Edna ran up to Edwin and slapped his head down.
"We are SO SORRY your highness! It was an accident, we , I, got too distracted and let you see such an embarrassing sight." Edna bowed down while placing one hand on Edwin's neck so as to make him bow down as well.
*Thwack*
Arius threw two cushions on the floor beside the siblings.
"Your highness?" Edna asked as she slowly raised her head.
"Pick it up." Arius's eyes flashed red with anger. "Last one standing wins." He declared, his eyes brimming with determination.
"Aw yea! Battle Royale!" Edwin shouted as he picked up his cushion and thus began the violent struggle of the three children as they fought all over the reception room.
------
Five minutes have passed. Edna is laying dead tired on the couch. Sweat beads dripping from the chins of both Edwin and Arius, but neither of them are letting go of their cushions.
"I win." Arius declared.
"Not while I'm alive." Edwin stated in the most serious tone Arius has heard from him yet.
Right before the too charged once again, Edwin froze. Arius stopped as well, since he was worried about why Edwin suddenly paused after that serious statement.
"What's-"
In a split second, Edna stood up and Edwin ran around the room, tidying it all up. They snatched the cushion from Arius's hand and placed it in it's original position.
In less than twenty seconds, the reception room was back to it's original state.
Edwin dragged Arius to the couch and sat beside him. "Hey! what's up?!" Arius asked genuinely concerned by their weird behaviour.
*Clack*
The door opened and in walked, Millicent Villareal. The eldest. Her hair braided from the front to the back. Her jade eyes observing the whole room as if finding anything out of the ordinary.
"Blessings and Glory upon the future son of the Obelia Empire. What brings you here, Your Highness?" Millicent asked after she bowed.
"Oh, uh , I just came here to get to know you all better. " Arius smiled at her.
"I see. . ." Millicent went ahead and was about to sit beside Edna on the couch opposite to Arius, but Arius stood up.
"I've already had quite a wonderful time with Edwin and Edna, and I'm sure you all have plans for today. I wouldn't like to get in the way, so please enjoy the capital city to your hearts content. I'll visit you after tonight's dinner again."
"Thank you, Your Highness." Millicent expressed her gratitude, but her voice remained monotone.
"See you later, Edwin, Edna. I had fun." Arius smiled at the two, who seemed a little surprised by the act, but faintly smiled back at the prince.
------
The Villareals soon left for a tour of the capital city. Arius returned to his Palace and saw neither Lucas nor Athanasia. He assumed they had gone to the Emerald Palace and dropped on the couch.
The villareal siblings were like normal children. Arius smiled remembering the battle he was having with them. And then remembered his meeting with Edwin for the first five minutes.
The aura he felt. . . wasn't of an innocent child. It felt deadly and intimidating and suffocating.
He reminded Arius of those anime characters that look harmless and cute and weak but take a full one-eighty degree turn when someone crosses the line.
Arius sighed and sat up straight on the couch. He had other problems to take care of. More important problems.
Ijekiel's going to Arlanta soon. The orphan group under the Lennox county is slowly turning into Arius's favor.
Lennox.
The name itself disgusted Arius.
But the twins secret was vulnerable with the Lennox's. Arius had to do something about it.
Vincent told him Vivia intended to take the children to the northern territory to hone their talents. They could take the children away at any moment.
Cadel and Gunther were now imperial knights in training. If the twins accept Arius's request to be his eyes and ears, then they're safe as well. That left Ruby, Mia , Elio, Jasper and Lifa.
Now Arius was definitely not their Guardian, so thinking about their future wasn't his headache to take, but Arius promised himself that he will make sure that these children live. Live and accomplish their dreams.
He felt a strange sense of duty towards them, not as Prince Arius or as Arion their friend, but as Kazuto Fushimu.
Someone who knows despair and weakness. He knows how it feels to have your dreams shattered and your life turn into hell. Even during his abusive life there was a time when his mother would hug and kiss him and his father would carry him when he was tired of walking.
He knows how it feels.
And so for these kids, who've already witnessed hell, who've come from different backgrounds for different reasons. To give them hope and happiness and ensure a bright life for them, just as how this world brightened Kazuto's soul.
No matter how cheesy or dumb it might sound, Arius genuinely wanted to help them because in each one of them he saw a part of himself, however tiny it was. He saw himself.
And he wanted to protect this version of himself within others.
And so he will. He has to.
Whatever those lilac barbarians wanted, if those children dont like it, Arius will do anything and everything in his power to stop them. He'll use his authority as prince, or his abilities as a magician or his overall intelligence and experience from all his lifetimes.
He will ensure them a good life.
But there's also another problem Arius needs to deal with.
Jennette Margarita, The Hidden Princess.
His cousin.
