A/N: And here is my next chapter. :) With the Season Finale "King's Tide" coming up, I wanted to get this chapter done before it airs out. Whatever happens there, King will have a new destiny to be certain. Anyway, this is where things get really heavy in this story. How heavy, I won't say, but there will be some trigger warnings. So if you feel triggered, please leave and collect yourself. Other than that, I hope you enjoy this next chapter.
Back at the Owl House, Luz was sitting down on the couch with Ben and Judith sitting beside her while Eda and Lawrence were standing in front of them as Raine and Val (who took a sip of Appleblood in a bottle) looked on. It's been a week since Ben told them everything about his journey to the Temple of Xanatos, about how he fought its guardian, Val the Vampire, and how she ended up tagging along with him. Luz and Judith were especially surprised with how the Sword apparently held the key to splitting someone from their curse. Then, he was told of everything that happened to Luz and Judith.
He was stunned, of course, to hear that Lucifer came dangerously close to being free. He especially felt sorry for her to have to face a monster like him. He felt even worse about not being there to help her. All the same, Luz couldn't blame him. Especially not when he brought back something that could help Judith get free of her curse. But the problem was... they don't know how.
The manuscripts they found on the Sword didn't say anything about how it could accomplish that. And even then, most of it was blurred out. It especially hurt Judith that she had to wait longer for the answer. Pending Bump's official decision, Judith couldn't go to Hexside, so she's usually stuck at her father's house or the Owl House most days. But for now, they had something to help, and it was a start. Focusing on that was one of the reasons why Judith didn't fall into despair. Another was the fact that Eda was finally teaching her friend how to do magic.
After surviving the tyrant known as Lucifer Blackburn, Eda saw how brave Luz was, how much alike she is with her. The Owl Lady couldn't do magic on her own, sadly, but thanks to Lawrence, she found another way. She was giving the trio a visual aid with Lawrence's help.
"Okay, who can tell me where magic comes from?"
Luz and Judith were the first to raise their hands. However, Eda called Judith out on it. Ben didn't bother raising his hand. He already knew.
"Eh, sorry, Judy. I kinda wanna hear Luz's guess."
Judith made a slight pout before Luz spoke up. However, she didn't seem all that certain, especially when the Boiling Isles was different from what she expected.
"Uh... from the heart?"
Eda gave Luz a suspicious glare before it softened up a bit.
"Actually, you're right!"
Luz widened her eyes in surprise.
"Wait, what? I'm right?"
Eda dug into her hair to pull out a parchment, showing the group a drawing of a heart with a large green organ just behind it.
"No, really. It comes from a sac of magic bile attached to a witch's heart."
Ben and Luz were immediately disgusted by the visual aid, the former nearly barfing his breakfast out.
"What the—?!"
"Oh, gross!"
A short second later, Luz looked up at Eda.
"I... don't suppose I could keep that?"
Eda stuffed it back in her hair as she answered.
"No."
