How it happened

My story is a bit more complicated than others, most people get to tell their story while they're living, I however have to tell mine after death.

I'm Lindsey Lowe, my boyfriend Brent and I used to be the most loved, popular and voted the cutest couple in school for the second year in a row, that all happened the school year before he died.

Brent and I had been together for almost 3 years, we were voted the cutest couple for the yearbook for the second year in a row, but the summer before we were supposed to go into our senior year, Brent had gotten into a bad car accident and died.

I was devastated, heartbroken. I still was, I was a senor in highschool and this year was supposed to be the last year Brent and I had of school before we planned to move in together.

After his accident people didn't really talk to me, not unless they were telling me they were sorry about what happened. In fact some people bullied me about it, saying that without Brent I was no longer wanted around. That wasn't an appropriate thing to bully someone about but that's what they did.

Other than that people didn't talk to me, I became isolated, quiet, sad.

I knew some girls who were jealous of me, they had wanted Brent, and blamed me for him not feeling the same way. I was pretty sure most of them wanted me dead.

I hadn't talked to any of my friends in almost a year. The only person I talked to any more was my brother.

He was there for me, he understood, he gave me time and space and didn't pressure me into talking about it.

I was coming home from school one day, with a boat load of homework to do.

I walked into the house and was immediately greeted by my brother who was sitting at the kitchen table.

"Hey you." He greeted me kindly, he was older than me by about two years and had graduated highschool more than 1 year ago.

My dad walked into the kitchen after hearing the door close.

I tensed up, my dad scared me sometimes. I never knew what he was going to do next and ever since my mom died he had gotten extremely violent. I never knew what to expect anymore.

"Lindsey take out the trash darling" he tried to sound as if he cared.

"Umm I have a lot of homework to do, can Sam do it real quick?" I asked politely.

"No I asked you now do it" he demanded.

I sat my bag down on the couch and pulled out a few of my textbooks along with some notes.

"Dad I can't right now," I said.

Sam stood up from his chair at the table.

"Dad it's fine I can do it, it's no big deal" he said and went to grab the trash.

My dad glared at me from afar.

"No son you sit, she'll do as she's told, right Lindsey?" He crossed his arms and stood real close to me.

"Dad I--" that's all I got out before I felt the hard sting of his hand as it connected with my cheek.

I gasped and held my cheek, I felt my eyes burn with tears.

"Dad it's not that big of a deal" Sam spoke up to him.

"Shut your mouth boy!" My father scolded him and I took that chance to run out the door.

I ran down the street, as far away as I could.

I sat by a tree in the park and cried and cried until I couldn't anymore.

I saw a group of girls from my school walk over to me. I hated when people saw me cry so I turned my head away from them.

"Aww is miss perfect having a bad day?" They teased.

"I'm not perfect" I muttered.

"Really, having the chance to be with the hottest guy in school while he left us in the dirt, doesn't sound perfect to you?" The main girl said to me in an angry tone.

"Maybe he left you in the dirt, cause all you cared about were his looks" I told her.

She looked offended. "Oh, I get it, maybe that's why the poor baby's crying, she misses what we never got the chance for". She laughed and looked to her friends.

"That's not why I'm crying" I whispered.

The girls looked at me with petty, confused looks on their faces. "Oh, so you don't miss him" the girl looked hurt, as if she missed him. She didn't, otherwise she wouldn't of laughed when she thought I was crying for him.

I sniffled "I miss him more than anything"

The main girl laughed again. "Then why don't you go join him" she kicked me hard in the ribs, causing me to fall into my back.

One of the other girls grabbed me by the throat and bashed my head against the ground.

I couldn't see, the force of my head hitting the ground caused my head to spin.

Before I could process what was happening, another girl kicked me in the face.

While another one pulled my hair and smashed my head against the ground one more time, that was enough for me to go out cold.

I was unconscious, but I still felt another presence, as if someone has joined the group of girls in front of me.

I heard a gun being loaded, and one of the girls laugh.

I heard the main girls voice "no Jon, we didn't want to kill her, just teach her a lesson, let her know how we felt. Don't kill her Jon" she pleaded with him.

But that wasn't enough to stop him, for the last thing I heard was the giggling of the girls and the loud sound of a gunshot, before my breathing had stopped and my heartbeat ceased forever.

I was gone.
