They stood there waiting for the ship's XO to show them where the deceased's quarters were. This was the first time since they returned from the undercover operation that they were working together, and this time, there was no escaping it. Previous to the case, there were times when Gibbs tried to partner them up, but one of them would always have an excuse, and Gibbs would usually tell McGee to go with whoever was available. This time, he caught them off guard, and with no time to think of a valid excuse, they were partnered together. They were alone; No Gibbs, No McGee, or even Palmer. It was just the two of them. After a while, Ellie finally mustered up the courage to say something. "So..." she said. Awkwardly, not even looking at him. "So..." He replied. "How have you been?" She asked. "Good, you?" he asked. "Great," she replied. "Great," he replied, distancing himself from her. She realized what he was doing and knew that this awkwardness between them needed to end. They needed to talk about what happened, even if they were in the middle of a case. "Nick, wait. We have to talk about this." Ellie said, angry about the way he was acting towards her. "There's nothing to talk about. You kissed me; I can't help that I'm irresistible; I get it; it happens to people." Ellie rolls her eyes at his comment, a half-grin on her face. "I kissed you to keep our cover intact; he was getting suspicious." "Sure. Keep telling yourself that." Nick answered, knowing that there was something she wasn't telling him. Just as she was about to say something back, the ship's XO walked up to them. "You must be Special Agent Bishop and Torres. I'm XO Brian Hill. If you follow me, I can show you straight to Lieutenant Comanda's quarters. ... "So, did Comanda have any enemies on the ship? Did he get into any arguments with anyone?" Bishop asked as they were walking towards the Lieutenant's quarters. "No, everyone loved the guy. He was the best Lieutenant this ship had in a long time. He always tried to have fun with the crew in his spare time; most lieutenants are always working. He was a good guy. Not sure why anyone would want to kill him." "Are you sure you never saw the Lieutenant argue with anyone on the ship or who was previously on the ship" "There was this one guy who transferred off this ship about a week ago. I saw him and the Lieutenant arguing. I don't know what it was about, but it looked heated. It only lasted a couple of minutes." The XO replied. "Do you have the name of the guy he was talking to?" Bishop asked. "Ensign Leopold Brooks. He was only here for about three weeks before transferring to a new ship." "Okay, thank you. We'll be in touch if we have any other questions." Bishop said. "Happy I could be of help," the XO replied before walking away.
