As night fell, the circus lights grew luminous against the black sky. In that welcome amber glow the time of slower thoughts has arrived, those moments when with open eyes your brain became a perfect empty horizon, seeing, yet content to sit. You felt the soothing breeze and became absorbed in the music of crickets, letting the gentle energy of nature wash in.
You felt a gloved hand cover your own, as Ydris rotated his palm parallel to yours and interlocked your fingers.
"Dearest, it is quite late," he almost whispered, his gaze upon you "I suggest we move back into the wagon,"
They say the eyes are windows, the thing is, you could see through them. You could see his passion and his gentleness just the same. You saw how every emotion came together to form the art of his soul. Eyes that loved you like his would catch your soul, even if you weren't aware of its falling.
You nodded, smiling lightly.
Ydris took a better hold of your hand as he led you inside a dimly lit wagon, its familiar sweet scent warmly welcoming you.
"I'm gonna shower," You announced, giving Ydris a peck on his cheek.
"Alright," He answered with a lovesick smile, his mind lost in the daydream of your kisses.
You kept the tips of your pinkies intertwined for a while longer before you let go and made your way to the bathroom.
Shutting the door behind you, you took your clothes off and folded them. You reached out, giving the knob a brief tug. Water began spraying out of the showerhead, and you squeaked a little as the icy water rained down upon you, hastily twisting the knob around and feeling the water slowly begin to heat up.
You took a step further, enough for the water to make your hair wet, standing in the flow for a few moments.
As you were about to reach for soap, you felt a pair of arms clasp around your waist from behind and a head resting on your shoulder.
Ydris' breathing was slow and steady, calmness within spreading as eddying swirls of light. His thumbs were making various circle and heart shapes around your belly. With every hand move he made, purple sparkles appeared, which was tickling you slightly, but you did not have the heart to tell him to stop.
You felt safe in his embrace, even if the man you loved so dearly was so distant in reality. You knew his intentions, and yet you were unable to leave him. There was something about him that told you that what he does isn't as wrong of him as it seems to others.
In truth, you didn't know much about Ydris. His mysterious self was often hard to get through, even for you.
At that moment, a question flicked in your mind.
"Ydris?" You put your hands on his.
He let out a 'hm' sound, you felt the vibrations from his chest on your back as he did so.
You turned your head a bit, "How old are you?"
He seemed startled, for his body tensed as soon as the world left your lips. However, he eased not too long after.
"Love, I'm afraid there's no satisfying your curiosity. Time works differently in Pandoria, I myself am not sure of my own age," He explained.
Furrowing your eyebrows, you questioned him further, "When do you celebrate your birthday, then?"
"My what?" Ydris lifted his head from your shoulder.
You turned your back to face him as your eyes widened, "Your birthday,"
"Is that another one of your human traditions? If yes, I would be more than happy to experience it with you," He smiled.
"A birthday is a day you were born on, you celebrate your birth every year,"
"Oh," he tilted his head and his expression changed, "Well, I certainly hear that for the first time,"
The conversation about Ydris' lack of birthday ended there and then. You didn't want him to feel bad for missing out on yet another of your folklore, yet you were determined to let him feel the excitement of it at least once. You knew he was sad about it. A plan was rasing in your thoughts as you and Ydris left the shower and got ready to sleep.
Ydris joined you in your now most of the time shared bed. After a while, you looked over, his hair tousled, his nostrils flaring slightly, matching his slow, breathing pattern in his sleep. You snuggled up against him, chest to chest, your heartbeat catching up to his as if your bodies reacted simultaneously to your warm touch.
Both of your bodies were buried under the covers, yet you could see his silhouette from the dim light from the candles placed around the room. The light made his body shine, his lips, softer than the softest thing you could think of. You traced your fingers along with his trapezius muscle, then down to his deltoids.
You kissed his cheek lightly, and closed your eyes for a second, silently inhaling and exhaling. When you opened them, you saw him slowly opening his eyes, like a baby opening its eyes for the first time. A smile slides across his face, his gorgeous multicolored eyes staring back at you. You grabbed his hand and intertwine your fingers with his. Your lips met at the slightest and softest touch, then they parted.
"You should be sleeping, my dear," You heard his voice say.
You were so engulfed in your passion for him, that you didn't even realize his lips were moving. You smiled at him, playing with his hair lightly.
"I love you," You breathed out.
He smiled, kissing your nose, "I know,"
You laid there for a while longer, looking for more words to say. But maybe it's true what they say, that silence is golden, because the look in his eyes told you everything you would ever want to hear.
.
.
You waited for Ydris to come out of the wagon, as you told him to a while ago.
The early morning was the dominion of the birds, for they in the bright feathered plume were so very in love with the sunrise. In the early morning, daylight unwrapped the hues of the world.
People were waiting on the sides of the wagon, crouching so Ydris wouldn't see them in case he decided to look out of the window. Among them were Josh, Justin, Maya, and a few other Moorland locals. And the Soul Riders, somehow. You weren't certain about how you managed to convince them to come, but what matters is that you did.
The door opened, and Ydris stepped out, not knowing what to expect.
Suddenly, everyone jumped out from behind the wagon.
"Suprise!" They all cheered with balloons in their hands, and with Mrs. Holdsworth holding rhubarb pie with a hint of cloudberries, Ydris' favourite.
He felt like his heart jumped out of his chest at the shock. He looked around, not sure of what to do.
"Happy birthday," You grinned.
"I don't...I don't have a birthday," Ydris stuttered.
"We know," Mrs. Holdsworth said as she handed him the cake, "But everyone deserves to have one,"
He looked over to you, his eyes watering, unknowingly to him.
"Is this your doing?" He asked, his voice cracky.
You shrugged your shoulders with a smile.
He hurried to you and embraced you. You felt his body press in, soft and warm. This was the love he had waited for, prayed for. He inwardly thanked and hugged all the tighter. A love like this was to be cherished for life.
Ydris felt happy.
Finally, he was home.
