They won't send ambulances for broken hearts, just broken bodies. They won't think you're hurting until you bleed and they won't guide you until there are consequences. They won't hear you until you scream for help, maybe then they will listen.
Have you made the right decision to stay in Jorvik?
The halo of the horizon arrived with golden grace as you sat on the edge of a cliff near the Abandoned Farm on Nilmer's Highland. The leaves shimmered like a mirror-flecked mosaic and the morning dew sparkled on the bejeweled cobwebs and grass. The golden light softly caressed the land and ignited the birds into a chorus of melodies.
We are not born feeling inadequate. They made you this way.
It was almost impossible for a day to pass without someone requesting something. There was no moment when you could take a breath and let go of your responsibilities.
Even though the sun barely rose over the powdered mountains, you were tired. So tired of it all.
Maybe tomorrow.
Maybe you would wake up tomorrow, and everything would be like in a movie. But lately, doing anything seemed too draining. Even when you slept for twelve hours or more, you were exhausted beyond any measure. You couldn't bear to look into the mirror to see the mess that you became.
And there wasn't anything to be done, you could have stopped when you began to spiral, but you let yourself fall.
If you turned away those years ago before you knew what all those sightings of magic meant, what would have happened? Before you were drowning, when it was just a wonder, before it consumed you.
Before you came here.
An echo of quiet steps from behind you interrupted your trail of thoughts. You turned to see Ydris approaching, with his well-known charming smile.
"Long time no see, little flea,"
"You know, it's actually rude to call people fleas," You answered, watching him sit beside you.
He laughed under his breath, "Not everyone can be a butterfly,"
Silence fell, but none of you felt the need to speak. There was a type of comfort in the quietness, in the steadiness of your heartbeat. You both watched the world slowly wake, the horizon lit up by the glowing sunrise.
"I can't help but wonder," Ydris spoke up, "There has been an uncountable amount of heart-shaped and pink objects around flashing me in the eyes, no matter where I go, and my audience has been overly affectionate to each other,"
"Really? If I had a date your show would be the last place I'd take them to," You mocked, a wicked grin on your face.
"That's- Excuse you," He looked at you, unphased, "The point is, am I missing something? Those mere humans have been more interested in each other's lips than in my performance,"
"Ydris," You sighed, "It's Valentine's Day,"
He frowned, "Doesn't ring a bell,"
"It's a day when people show their love to one another in various ways," You shrugged your shoulders, "It's kind of a bummer when you don't have anyone because everything around reminds you that you don't"
"Is it ever going to be 'The Amazing Ydris' Day?'"
"Don't think so,"
Ydris nodded in disappointment.
"But, honestly, if there is someone who truly adores you, they should express their feelings not just on Valentine's Day,"
"Why is some Valentine more celebration-worthy than me?" He kept asking.
"Are you even listening?"
"Yes, apologies,"
The both of you went quiet again, but it was not the same as before. It seemed as if something hung on to the tension, as if something needed to be said. You guessed Ydris felt the same way, for he once again spoke up first.
"You seem sorrowful, dear. It's not just because of the celebrations of love, is it?" He shifted closer, his downcast eyes glimpsing at your side.
You sighed, and slowly shook your head.
"It's just," You hesitated, yet continued, "Everything feels a bit too overwhelming lately,"
The answer was, despite the fact that it was Ydris's question, not what he expected. He did not completely understand human emotions, even if he most of the time felt them himself. However, who in this world has the ability to truly understand how they feel?
He looked back at the horizon, a soft smile dancing on his lips.
"I think it's brave," He said, "I think it's brave that you get up in the morning when your heart aches and you do not feel like being soft for the world. I think it's brave that you continue to love, express and open your soul, despite how you have been treated by the same people you treat so kindly. That you keep going, believing in something more, something bigger, even when you may not know what you are hoping for,"
You stared at him, speechless by his unexpected comfort.
"When it all feels dull, it's okay to take your time to shine. After all, even the Earth's Sun and Moon take turns to light up the sky,"
"Why are you telling me this?" Your voice broke, for his unusual sentences caressed your heart as a soft blanket.
"Because if you saw yourself the way I see you," He turned to you, "You would never doubt again,"
All words left your mind, and you had no idea what to say. What he said was beyond anything anyone has ever said to you, and for that, it felt all the more special. He was special.
In any case, no talking was necessary.
You reached to him, wrapping your arms around his neck. Ydris sat there, frozen, yet after a while, he melted into the comfort. In his embrace, the world stopped still on its axis. There was no time, no wind, and no rain. Your mind was at peace. There was something that felt warm, something that felt right. You let your body sag, your muscles became loose.
"Thank you, Ydris," You whispered.
Keeping you tightly in his arms, he brought his head forward to kiss the crown of your head.
The sun has already risen over the mountains and its light spilled on the land, glittering against the left side of your faces. The air became sweeter, birds softened the dawn with their chorus. Light leaked the same way into Ydris' eyes as it ignited his skin, making the blue tones of his iris a perfect spring sky, his mind clear and his smile warmer than the gentle sunlight.
One glance into those eyes told of a lifetime of emotions that had never been put into words, fixing you in all the best ways.
You loved the way he looked at you. He looked at you with such love and care, that gaze became as if butterfly wings, his and yours. You could speak all that was on your mind for hours and hours, and he would still listen, he would let you tell him any story even if you already told him uncountable times before. He would just nod and smile, giving you all his attention.
He looked at you in a way that made you feel like the whole world was watching, and it would still be your hand that he would hold.
"I'm here anytime, my dear,"
