That night at the football game the score was twenty-eight to twenty-three. The ninjas were losing by five points, and there were only two minutes left on the clock.

"You got this!" Cassie cheered. Kai and Lloyd both smiled up at her. They both played football.

"You can beat them, bro!" Nya yelled.

"Let's go, Lloyd!" Jay screamed.

"Beat them like a wild teen!" Zane added. Cassie and Cole laughed.

"With two minutes left on the clock, the ninjas call a time out," the announcer yelled.

When the time out was over, Kai's football team went back out. Kai grabbed the ball and threw it at Lloyd, who scored. Then Kai scored a point, then Zachary.

"Two points down and thirty seconds left on the clock. Can the ninja do it?"

Our team scored another point.

"Fifteen seconds left and one point down!"

Kai threw the ball and scored two points, just as the timer ran out.

Everyone cheered immediately.

"THEY DID IT!" someone screamed.

"Let's go!" Cole yelled.

Cassie smiled enthusiastically. Nothing could mess up this moment.

Cassie heard a scream.

Well . . . Guess something can ruin the moment.

Cassie ran into the school and changed into her ninja gi, her friends right behind her.

"Where's Lloyd and Kai?!" Nya asked.

"They can't get out! The football people aren't letting them leave!" Jay said.

"Looks like it's just us for now, then," Cole said.

The group of five ran towards the screams. They found a pretty brunette with blue eyes on the ground, crying.

"What's your name?" Cassie asked the girl.

"I'm Mia," the girl said. (ISimpKaiSmith)

"Why are you crying?" Cassie asked Mia.

"We just moved here yesterday and someone already kidnapped my mother. I thought it would take at least a week," Mia explained.

"Why would people kidnap your parents at all?" Cole asked.

"My father is very rich and everyone tries kidnapping me and my mother to get random money," Mia explained.

"Uh . . ." Cassie said, looking at Nya for help.

Cassie helped Mia up as Zane asked, "Which way did the kidnapper go?"

"They went down that road," Mia said, pointing. "They were on foot, so they couldn't have gotten far."

Cassie grabbed Nya's hand and they started running to where Mia pointed. They saw a person dressed in all black wearing a ski mask and a woman who looked like an older version of Mia being pulled away by the person. The woman had something in their mouth, so their screams were muffled.

Cassie and Nya ran after them. Cassie let go of Nya's hand so she could spray water at the kidnapper. With that distraction, Cassie managed to catch up and use her fighting skills on the kidnapper.

Cassie kicked the kidnapper in the face and then kneed them in the stomach. They groaned in pain and held their stomach. Nya and Zane kept the kidnapper at bay as Cassie tried to help the woman.

"Are you Mia's mother?" Cassie asked. The woman nodded.

"Jay, Cole, get Mia and bring her here!" Cassie ordered them. They did as she asked.

When Mia got there, she hugged her mother tightly.

Mia looked at Cassie. "Who are you guys?"

"We're the ninja," Cassie smiled.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The next day, Cassie headed towards Mia's house. It was just across the street from hers. The house Mia was staying in was incredibly nice. Four stories and a basement and attic. Seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. There was a giant kitchen and a living room three quarters of the size of the cafeteria at Cassie's school. Even though they lived in a rich neighborhood, Mia's house was still considered the nicest house on the street.

Cassie knocked on the door and Mia opened it.

"Hey, I'm you neighbor and I'm here to welcome you to the neighborhood," Cassie welcomed Mia. "My name's Cassie. What's yours?"

"I'm Mia," she smiled.

"I'm fifteen and I'm a sophomore at Ninjago High School. What about you?" Cassie asked.

"I'm also fifteen. I'm going to start going to Ninjago High School on Monday," Mia said. "I'm going to be a sophomore like you."

"That's great!" Cassie smiled. "I'll give you a tour of the school before class on Monday."

"That would be amazing. Thank you," Mia smiled.

Suddenly, Cassie's father stormed out of his house. "I can't believe that you are blaming me for that!" he yelled at his wife.

"Keep your voice down, Dylan! The neighborhood is staring!" Cassie's mother hissed.

"Yeesh. I would hate to be their kid," Mia observed.

"Yeah," Cassie sighed. "It's not very fun."

"Wait, you're their kid? Poor you," Mia said, rubbing Cassie's shoulder.

"Please don't tell anyone. Nobody knows that my parents are going through . . . hard times," Cassie said.

"I would never tell," Mia said. "I promise."

"Thank you," Cassie smiled.

"Would you like to come inside?" Mia asked, changing the subject for Cassie's sake.

"Really?" Cassie asked. Mia nodded. "I would love to!"

Cassie went inside with Mia. Mia offered her drinks and she accepted.

"So, what do you do for fun?" Mia asked.

"There's a football game every Friday night," Cassie shrugged. "And I mostly just hang out with friends."

Mia changed the topic again. "Have you seen those awesome ninjas?! So cool! I want to be one!"

"Unless you have a power, I don't think they'll let you be a ninja," Cassie sighed.

"Oh yeah, because it could be dangerous. Maybe I could be like, their manager."

Cassie laughed. "Maybe."

Mia and Cassie hit it off immediately. They became friends by the end of the day and had even exchanged numbers. Cassie thought that it was a lot more fun than sitting at her house, praying that her parents would stop arguing and love each other again.

But Cassie knew that would never happen.

Cassie went back to her house and her mother told her that her father had decided to spend the night at a hotel. Her mother was going to spend the night with her boyfriend, Jonathan. Which meant Cassie was alone. Then again, when was she not alone? Even if her parents were here, she would be alone.

She would always be alone.

But that was okay. She was Cassidy Lockhart, she could handle anything.
