I sat at Paige's memorial- I couldn't remember the last time I was here, but I know I was crying. It's been months since Gary locked up Monobert. The killing game was finally over- we all just needed to accept that we were stuck here. I wasn't adapted yet, but it was in the works. I sighed as I glanced at Loop- the puffle that chose me to look after. Loop was Paige's favorite, whenever we used to hang out that was the conversation starter. Her...

"God, Paige..." I started to sob a bit, gripping the dirt with my flipper. Loop nudged my arm, causing me to sniffle. I pulled Loop into my lap, hugging her tightly. "We could have talked... I could have helped you." I wiped the tears from my eyes. "I could have... Helped..." I coughed as Loop squeaked lightly.

I sighed. "Sorry. Let's get something to eat. We have some leftover pizza at the parlor..." I smiled untruthfully, standing up and backing away from Paige's memorial.

We left the box dimension together, Loop residing on my shoulder. The island was so quiet this late at night. It was abnormal that I was out this late, anyways.

We approached the pizza parlor. Walking inside, it was dead silent. I set Loop on the counter- I'd have to give her pizza. We didn't have many O-Berry bushes left, and they'd need more bushes to regrow since winter just ended.

I walk to the back with my cap on, putting some pre-rolled dough on the tread. Rolling it down, I put on tomato sauce, cheese, and seaweed. As it cooks, I get out a pizza peel to pick it up safely. I tread back, thinking about Paige. She was so kind... But this game made her insane. I shrugged off my thoughts and walked back. Almost on queue, it comes out of the Pizzatron 3000. I pick it up and place it next to Loop, as she almost devours half of the entire thing.

"Oh, don't burn yours-" I exclaim in awe as I hear a puffle cry from outside. My heart sinks in my chest. "Stay here- leave a few slices for me." I gather myself and exit the Pizza Parlor, checking the perimeter thoroughly.

Nothing.

I grip onto my flipper and walk back inside. I see Loop happily enjoying pizza, and I feel alright again. I walk over to her, eating with her. It felt nice to eat with someone again. It's been a while since I've talked to anyone outside of passing by. Even with a puffle, it still feels like human company.

We walk home with two slices left. I was gonna reheat it in my microwave, since I was still hungry and really didn't enjoy cold pizza. It was such an irk of mine- maybe it was living in such a cold climate.

As we enter my igloo, I throw the pizza on the table and open the microwave. I put the pizza inside and set the timer to a minute. My ears ring as I hear another puffle cry. Seriously..? I grunt and ignore it, counting the seconds. 44.. 43... 42... Chirp chirp! Oh my god.

I stomp outside, glancing around. Nothing. Again. Raising an eyebrow, I hear a noise inside. Must have been the microwave, but... It wasn't the timer going off. It was the microwave opening.

My mind gathers itself as I walk inside- and freeze.

Such a familiar face. Such a familiar sight. The door slams behind me, as I didn't hold it to dampen the noise.

The figure in front of me shifts. It was a very pale-tinted Paige. She was reclining back against my chair, flippers on the table. Her other pair crossed her chest, tapping her foot along to the ticking of the clock on my wall. Her hat was fallen over her face, almost as if she was lost in thought.

When that door slammed, though, her face raised along with her hat. Her eyes were fully white, pupils and iris's non existent. The shine in her eyes somewhat replaced it, yet the ghostly appearance was.... Well, ghostly.

"A-Ah!" I yelped, slamming backwards against the door. I rubbed my eyes harshly, blinking them back open. Paige was still there.

Paige seemed just as shocked as I did, flinching at my cry. "Crikey! Is that any way to treat a guest, Dotty?"

"W-" I clench my flippers together in minor anguish.

"I'd figure not!" Paige sat up, walking over to the microwave. She took a piece of pizza out and ate it. It seemed to evaporate into thin air.

"How- what- how are you here?!" I walk over to Paige, putting my hand on the side of her face. Or- tried to. My hand phased through her face. The obvious look of shock on my face seemed to put alarm into her too.

"Huh? Wait." She looked down at herself. "Oh. I'm dead. Shucks. Wait- then how did I eat that pizz- ugh!" She wrapped her flippers around her stomach, grunting.

"Wait- nonono, you're not real. I'm just hungry and tired." I stepped back and nervously laughed.

"Wait, Dotty. I am real! How else would I be self aware?" Paige sat upright and gripped her own beak, walking towards me.

"No, you're not!" I screamed at her as I walked equally backwards. "This must be some god awful dream- Ah, I didn't have lunch today!" I glanced sideways at the pizza box. "That's it! Gary once said a lack of nutrition would give me bad dreams!- WELL. I'm in control of this dream, got it? I demand that you leave at once!" I scoffed, pointing at Paige. I hit the door while backing up, so I scoot upwards and opened it.

Paige's eyebrows lower. She seems to want to believe that, too, but remorse filled her scleras. She sighed as she exited the door, but ran into something, being dragged back into me. I fell over, which was weird. I couldn't touch her face, but she could knock me down. That's fair. I look down, into my lap, and grimace as Paige laughs lightheartedly.

She stood and dusted herself off. "Figures I'd get stuck with you." I raised my eyebrows as she sat down on the floor again, this time at her own disposal. "I always knew you had a good mind for me and all, but making me the equivalent of your puffle seems pretty bad- even for my standards." She flushed, almost in embarrassment.

I huffed, looking over at my clock that was ticking earlier. 11:25. "D-Don't say things like that, Paige." My conflicting thoughts disrupted me. "...Fine. Settle down somewhere for the night. I'm too tired for this."

I got in bed, wrapping blankets around myself. I heard scuffling next to me. I looked down and saw Paige on the floor. "Night, Dotty.~" Paige sighed lightly and curled up.

"...Goodnight, Paige." I gripped the covers, almost feeling bad. As I heard that familiar snore maybe 20 minutes later, I rolled over.

I grabbed another blanket and laid it over Paige. It didn't go through her somehow. I smiled and got comfortable once more as the snoring stopped. I flushed as I knew she was awake, rolling away from Paige.

Today was an emotional rollercoaster. I just saw my best friend again. My dead one, at that. Before that, I had pizza with a now asleep puffle. And before that I was grieving for that friend.....

And now I'm having conflicting feelings for them.
