— Aetna's father has always been abusive. Even while her mother was pregnant, he would do anything to hurt her or Aetna. When she was born he started to hurt her too. It wouldn't always be physical though like sometimes when she was younger he wouldn't feed her or he would leave her alone while she sat and cried. He didn't really physically start abusing her until she was at the age of 3. He started to slap her whenever she got dirty from playing outside or when she didn't clean her dinner. Her mother never did anything because they had such a good reputation in Sunnyvale. If someone found out that he got in trouble their whole lives would come crumbling down.
That was until she was 8. While her father was at a town meeting Aetna and her mother packed up their belongings and left. They didn't really have an idea of where to go they just knew they had to leave. They called her grandmother and asked if they could stay. Obviously she said yes, Aetna was her grand baby.
Aetna's mother called the police the next day. She told them everything that happened since the beginning. She didn't think they would actually do anything though. The two stayed hidden for a couple months until they knew it was safe. They had to make sure the didn't get into the same place again.
What Aetna and her mother didn't know was that her father wasn't the only monster around. There were many more just outside waiting for Aetna. Ones that have beautiful voices, sharp tools, tall structures, and so many more wonderful descriptions. They were even wonderful. The only thing they knew was that the whole town was cursed.
