"Its location is prime," said Judson "Jamie, it's my duty to tell you that your land is worth a good deal."

They turned right and proceeded down the street where they came upon the gates.

"This is all mine?" Jamie asked, gazing at the area.

"Not all of it. Some of it is owned by the city but they can't build on it until your land is rightfully obtained."

"Why is that?"

"Well, some of the area before the gates was originally a zoned area. Thankfully there isn't enough open space for the city to achieve what they want without building on your land."

"Sounds complicated."

"That's just the beginning of it." said Judson before stopping at the gates "Jamie, when you turned eighteen, you became the sole owner of this land. I have it all mapped out for you."

"How much..." Jamie paused/ She didn't want her anxiety to show.

"About half a million. The land is worth approximately two million.

'Mr. Judson, why are you going through great lengths to help me?"

"Well, frankly, my motivations are financial as well. There is a fair sum of money that Richard Vannacutt placed in escrow at the firm that's been collecting interest for decades since no one claimed the estate.

Jamie took a deep breath. Dear god, I'm gonna be wealthy!

Judson got out of his car to open the front gates before coming back and continued driving forward. Judson pulled into what may be a driveway.

"My god, this is it?" Jamie asked, observing the property. The house was huge!

"Yeah, it's what you might call a fixer upper from the outside but the inside isn't bad at all. Whether you want the property or don't want it, you're stuck with it. It's yours. Those are terms of the will."

Without saying a word, Jamie got out of the car. "So I couldn't sell even if I wanted to?"

"Well, do yourself a favor." said Judson as he got out of the car. "Check it out before you do anything, You never know."

"Well, let's hope it actually is better on the inside."

Jamie and Judson walked up the steps to the main door of the house. The architecture was indeed phenomenal.

Come to me

Jamie turned in fright of the sudden voice in her head

"Woah, Jamie! You alright?"

Jamie nodded "Thought I heard something."

"Okay, well, let's go inside."

Judson took a pair of keys out of his jacket and placed one in the lock. The door screeched as it opened. Judson stepped away and Jamie followed him into what was probably the entryway with an entertainment area. The room was dim, but not completely dark. Jamie peered over to her left to see what looked like a bar. In front of her was a rather long table with glass surrounding it on the floor. She stepped around the table carefully and stopped in front of a large portrait painting.

"Ah!" Said Judson "That portrait there is a picture of your great, great grandfather; Dr. Richard Vannacutt."

"That's Richard?"

"Oh yes. And might I add, that you kinda look a bit like him."

"Really" Jamie said, turning to Judson and then back at the painting. The portrait of Richard, there was something about him that did seem familiar to her. She carefully eyes his features and is in awe. "I guess I do look a bit like him in the face. Must run in the family."

"There are multiple bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs." said Judson "From what I hear, each room is like the size of an apartment."

"You don't say?"

"Wanna go up?"

Jamie nodded "Sure."

"The steps are secure so we don't have to worry about them breaking when we go up."

The first room they went in was the master bedroom.

"You weren't kidding." said Jamie "It is like an apartment. Sure this isn't an apartment building?"

Judson laughed "I am sure. Richard was well off. From what I understand, this would be the master bedroom, his bedroom."

Jamie's eyes widened "This was his room? Damn!"

Jamie Vannacutt

The voice. It had returned. This time it was louder, almost as if someone was right next to her.

"You hear that?" Jamie asked

Judson nodded "It's an old place. Probably rats."

"Maybe."

"Let's go check out the rest of the place."

Judson gave the grand tour to Jamie. It wasn't a bad place, overall in good condition. Just needs some changes. With the money she inherited, Jamie could obviously afford a renovation. Jamie did not hesitate to say that she would take the property and claim it as her own.

"Splendid!" said Judson "You just made my job a whole lot easier for me."

"Well, I couldn't just leave it to rot. After all, this would be home now. I have no other place to go."

"Well, if you are sure" Said Judson as he dug into his briefcase "I'll just have you fill out these forms. Just sign your name and you are now the owner of the Vannacutt estate."

Jamie did that. She took a breath before signing each document. She gave the papers back to Judson who took them with a smile. "I will get these filed properly and you are good to go! Do you have a place to stay tonight?"

"It's okay." said Jamie "I'll just stay here, order takeout for food and figure the rest out later."

Jamie bid Judson goodbye. For the first time in her life, she has no clue what to do now. She was now alone in the old place.

Before Jamie went to bed,, something happened, someone turned the fire on in the fireplace, and she asked, "Who's there?"

But no one answered, so Jamie went to bed, but who turned the fire on in the fireplace?

Little does she know that someone was watching her, was it the spirit of Dr. Vannacutt?

Later that night, Jamie was dreaming about the same asylum where she stayed, then she saw roses blooming inside the asylum, then she saw a mysterious man in the shadows again, and he said, "Jamie"

Who was a mysterious man? Was it Dr. Vannacutt? So Jamie began to walk towards him. She was about to grab his hand when she suddenly woke up.
