HEARING ABOUT a missing boy in Hawkins was the thing i least expected as i stared at the news on the tiny box television sitting in the middle of the living room. Not to mention the fact it was one of my brothers best friends. The town of Hawkins, inhabited by roughly twelve thousand people was always calm. Always. Not once in my seventeen years of living did i expect to hear anything more important than a distraught family missing their tabby cat. Yet as i sit here, the crunch of toast being the only noise masking the man speaking about the missing boy, i can't help but think how the fuck did this happen?
I know, or maybe should i say knew, Will Byers slightly, seeing him as i drop my brother off to Mikes or one of his other friends but i have never spoken to the boy. His brother, Jonathan, is in my year at school; shy like his brother and introverted.
Dustin said Will wasn't at school yesterday but assumed he had the flu. I don't even think he knows about the report. "Dustin!" I call from the bottom of the stairs. I don't even get a chance to explain as he storms down the stairs, walkie in hand as he shouts a "I already know, i need to go!" and running out the house slamming the door behind him.
I stand stunned for a second, i was expecting him to cry a little maybe, not storm out of the house in a hurry.

By the time i made it to school everyone else was there hanging around one another. I immediately picked up my bag slinging it over one shoulder as i step out, slamming the car door behind me.
My green eyes scan the parking lot looking for a head of hair that I recognise. Pausing as my eyes lock onto Nancy Wheeler. My closest friend. She walks into the school building as i start to speed walk towards her, not running though because that would look a little weird for the people surrounding us.
"You're gonna be so cool now it's ridiculous." I hear Nancys friend, Barb comment as i finally make my way over interrupting their conversation.
"You better not forget us Nance, we all know who the better friends are." I say with a smirk going to open the locker next to hers. Me and Barb aren't very close, having different styles in both personality and people we can get along but wouldn't choose each other unless we were the only ones we knew.
"Not you too?" Her brown hair whips as she turns to her right where i'm stood. I only tilt my head giving her a small smile feigning innocence.
"If you become friends with Tommy H or Carol-" the redhead continues, bringing Steve's friends into the mix. Steve *the hair* Harrington that is. Popular boy, cocky, let's just say the only thing i like about him and Nancy having a thing, as she calls it, is that i get to annoy him more.
Nancy goes into the defensive mode immediately. "Oh that's gross! i'm telling you, it was like a one time... two time thing." just as she says that a note is visible at the bottom of the small locker. A note we all know who wrote it. Steve Harrington. "You were saying?" I lean my back against my locker as my head turns to her nodding at the note.
Nancy only smiles in embarrassment at the two of us as she murmurs a small "I've got to go" as i roll my eyes and pick up my bag again, turning in the other direction to head to lessons after saying a "Bye." to Barbara.
