The forest was shrouded in an ethereal quiet as Lan Zhan and Wei Ying stood close, their breaths mingling in the cool evening air. The lingering remnants of their kiss had left both of them in a state of intense vulnerability. Lan Zhan, his face flushed with a mixture of shyness and embarrassment, struggled to maintain his composure.
“W-Wei Ying…” Lan Zhan’s voice was barely a whisper, laden with the weight of his emotions.
Wei Ying, still grappling with the unexpected kiss and Lan Zhan’s subsequent confession, tried to steady his racing heart. “I will call back that dark energy if you promise you won’t run away from me. Is that a deal, Lan Zhan?”
Lan Zhan, eyes cast downward, nodded silently. His heart was pounding, conflicted between the intensity of his feelings and the fear of rejection. Wei Ying, with a wave of his hand, dissipated the dark energy, allowing Lan Zhan the freedom to move. Lan Zhan’s head hung low, his shame and anxiety evident.
“Lan Zhan, why did you do that?” Wei Ying’s voice was soft but laced with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
“I’m sorry, Wei Ying. I’m sorry for kissing you—” Lan Zhan began, but Wei Ying cut him off.
“Don’t be sorry about kissing me, Lan Zhan. I’m actually happy that it was you who took my first kiss,” Wei Ying said, his tone tender and filled with unspoken emotions.
Lan Zhan’s eyes widened in surprise. “It was your first kiss?”
“Yes,” Wei Ying admitted, a slight teasing edge to his voice as he referenced Lan Zhan’s title. “I didn’t know that Hanguang-jun could be so bold.”
The intensity in Lan Zhan’s gaze didn’t waver as he took a step closer to Wei Ying. Wei Ying felt his heart skip a beat at the sight of Lan Zhan’s unwavering attention. The air between them was thick with anticipation.
“If I kiss you again, will you let me, Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan’s voice was filled with a raw, earnest longing.
Wei Ying’s lips curved into a smile as he stepped forward, closing the distance between them. Without a word, he leaned in to meet Lan Zhan’s lips with his own. The kiss was deep and passionate, their tongues dancing in a fervent battle for dominance. Lan Zhan’s strength prevailed as he pushed Wei Ying against the tree, their kiss growing more intense and urgent. Wei Ying’s legs felt weak, his body responding to Lan Zhan’s touch in ways he had never experienced before.
After a moment that felt like an eternity, they finally pulled away, gasping for breath. Their foreheads touched, their breaths mingling as they caught their breath.
“Lan Zhan, what are we doing? This isn’t what friends do,” Wei Ying said, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to make sense of the situation.
Lan Zhan’s embrace tightened, as if he was afraid Wei Ying would disappear. “Who do you take me for?” Lan Zhan asked, his voice urgent.
Wei Ying looked into Lan Zhan’s eyes, finding the depth of his feelings reflected there. “I once took you as my soulmate.”
“Still, I am,” Lan Zhan said, his gaze unwavering. “And I want to take you back to Gusu with me.”
Wei Ying’s heart sank. He tried to pull away from Lan Zhan’s embrace, but Lan Zhan held him firmly. “Wei Ying, listen to me. I wanted to protect you, to shield you from everyone. I… I—”
“You what, Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying’s voice was a mix of frustration and hope.
“I love you, Wei Ying. I can’t live without you. Please, let me help you. Let’s figure this out together. I don’t want to lose you,” Lan Zhan confessed, his eyes pleading.
Tears welled up in Wei Ying’s eyes. The realization that Lan Zhan felt the same way he did was overwhelming. He had misjudged Lan Zhan’s intentions, believing them to be punitive rather than protective.
“Lan Zhan? You… you love me?” Wei Ying asked through his tears, his voice filled with a mixture of disbelief and joy.
Lan Zhan nodded, gently wiping away Wei Ying’s tears with his thumb. “Yes, I have always loved you, Wei Ying. I think I fell in love with you the moment we first met on that rooftop.”
Wei Ying’s heart swelled at Lan Zhan’s words. Before Lan Zhan could say anything more, Wei Ying silenced him with a tender kiss. The kiss was filled with all the emotions he had struggled to express, a promise of his own love in return.
“I love you too, Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying whispered as they broke apart.
The two embraced tightly, finding solace in each other’s arms. The sound of a distant voice broke the moment, and they reluctantly separated, but their connection remained strong.
As they headed back to the inn, Wei Ying’s emotions were still raw. The encounter had left him unsettled, especially with the unexpected complications involving his sword.
“Wei Ying…” Lan Zhan called, catching up to him.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying responded, his voice tinged with fatigue.
Lan Zhan wrapped him in a comforting embrace. “I’m here. You’re not alone.”
Wei Ying let out a shuddering breath, tears still staining his cheeks as he rested against Lan Zhan’s chest. Lan Zhan held him tightly, providing a steady presence in the midst of his emotional storm. They walked together in silence, finally reaching the inn.
Inside, Lan Zhan poured some water for Wei Ying, who took it gratefully. His mood shifted, and he looked at Lan Zhan with a sudden, vulnerable request.
“Is there any alcohol, Lan Zhan?”
Without a word, Lan Zhan left and soon returned with a jar of wine. He poured a glass for each of them. “If that’s what you want. I’ll drink for you,” Lan Zhan said quietly, pouring the wine.
Wei Ying drank quickly, seeking solace in the alcohol as it warmed him. Lan Zhan, after drinking his own cup, soon succumbed to the effects, his head resting on the table as he fell asleep.
Wei Ying watched him with a mixture of affection and concern. After about thirty minutes, Lan Zhan stirred, his eyes opening groggily.
“Lan Zhan, you’re awake,” Wei Ying said softly.
Lan Zhan, still somewhat disoriented, walked over and pulled Wei Ying into a tight embrace. “Mmm… Lan Zhan, you’re drunk,” Wei Ying commented with a gentle laugh.
“No, I’m not,” Lan Zhan protested, though his unsteady stance betrayed him.
Wei Ying smiled, enjoying this more carefree side of Lan Zhan. He returned the embrace, his hands soothingly caressing Lan Zhan’s back.
“Wei Ying, I want…” Lan Zhan began, his voice trailing off as he struggled to find the right words.
“What is it, Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying asked, his heart racing with anticipation.
“I want… I want you,” Lan Zhan confessed, his voice filled with a mix of desire and vulnerability.
The simplicity and honesty of Lan Zhan’s words left Wei Ying speechless. Their emotional connection had deepened, and despite the complications, the love they shared felt more genuine than ever. As they held each other close, the world outside seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them and the promise of a future together.
