I felt light-headed in the morning so I decided to remain in my hospital bed for the early part of it, I shut my eyes as I reminisced about what happened between Isaac and I the night before. My brows furrowed at the thought of seeing Isaac today. I was still mad at him, but I couldn't hold it against him. After all I kind of missed him by my bedside yesterday. I let out a deep sigh before opening my eyes, taking in the sickening scent of my hospital room for the 4075241th time. I open my eyes to find a figure hovering above my hospital bed, but my eyes remain unclear and blurry.
"Rise and shine beautiful"
"Isaac?" I let out quietly with a yawn.
"No silly, It's me" the person replied in a cheerful tone, whilst waving it's hand before my face.
I rubbed my eyes to see who was standing so near to my bedside but still struggled to identify the moving figure in front of me. If it wasn't Isaac then who could it be- "Wow, the doctors didn't mention that you'd lose half your memory here" she snickered. "MARGOT" I yelled with so much joy in my voice as I wrapped my arms around her neck pulling her on the bed. Margot reciprocates and wraps her arms around my petite figure. "Hey You" she giggled. "Wait aren't you supposed to be at work, today?" I questioned. "I took off for the day, I wanted to help you settle back at home". Home? I thought to myself.
"They didn't tell you, huh" she confirmed from my confused expression. "No" I continued. "You know Zee, I've been really down lately" Margot stated with a sad tone overpowering the words that had left her mouth. "I've missed you nagging at me constantly, your spontaneous late night calls, our Bible studies and especially our prayer sessions. A sudden joy filled Margot as she pulls the covers from me and urges me to stand up and get changed.
"I'm just relieved you're better now" she sighed as her deep green eyes welled up with water. "I'm glad God sent you into my life, and I promise I'll try and be better" she sighed once more before wiping her face. I'm lucky to have you, I thought to myself. The rest of the morning, Margot helped me get my stuff packed away and put it in the car. We drove across town to eat at one of our favourite spots that sold these really amazing waffles, we hadn't been there for a while since I got put in the hospital, so this was a nice way to catch up again. I really missed spending time with Margot, she's the only person I'd travel across the country with for brunch. She's my favourite friend. My only friend actually.
She takes a seat on the lilac chair across from me, as we both patiently wait for the waffles to be served. I carefully take a minute to observe the environment around me, as I take in the familiar scent of sweetness from the delicacies that were placed in front of Margot and I. "Hmm, macaroons" I let out with a soft giggle. "I'm glad you like them, I ordered them in advance" she chuckles as she proudly reaches for one. "Margot Brookes!" I call out boldly. "what" she replies with her hand mid-air. I playfully slap her hand away from the macaroons indicating that they're mine to eat. "Look! the waffles are ready!" she pointed out, making me turn my head as she took her opportunity to successfully reach for a macaroon.
"MACAROON THIEF" I yelled, eagerly trying to hold back my laughter. Margot covered her mouth that was now completely full with MY delicacies, as she shakes her head. "Did you bring me here to STEAL my food?" I asked. "First of all, the macaroon tasted nice". I gasped jokingly. "Secondly, this was actually your second favourite place to be at if you weren't at your first favourite place" she answered. "And what would that be, huh" I smirk.
Her answer never came immediately. Instead, she let the excitement that filled the space between us linger for a few moments before speaking again. She pauses as her eyes lit up and a joyous expression filled her face. "Church". My cheeks flushed crimson red at the very mention of the word 'Church'. Being surrounded by other Christians, either big or small, serious or funny, who truly share the same passion and love for God is BY FAR my most favourite place to be at. "Hey....erm...Margot...can I ask you....something" I eagerly requested. "Sure, what do you want to ask?" she replied.
"It's...err....about....Isaac". Her eyes widened at his name, the content feeling that had been with her throughout our conversation quickly changed into curiosity within seconds. "I was just wondering if you could check on him, for me?" my eyes slowly left Margot's, I never felt this embarrassed in my life. Well, except that one time I was forced to sing in front of a crowd filled with strangers and I ran of the stage crying because I forgot the lyrics. "Zemira, did anything happen between the two of you?"
Margot's eyes were fixated on mine, even as I looked away out of embarrassment her gaze on me didn't break. And the longer I delayed to answer her very simple question, the more she grew suspicious of the friendship Isaac and I claim to have. "Stop looking at me like that" I said hastily. "I'm trying to help him spiritually, that's all" I concluded as I fold my arms. "I'll take your word for it" Margot replies. A small smile grew on Margot's face "But if anything happens, I'll be the first to say I told you so".
