Valerie woke up two hours later with a massive hangover. Her muscles were sore and her head was pounding. At first she wasn't sure what had woken her up, but then she heard screaming once again. Valerie was pretty close to the park so she got up and walked in that direction. She walked over and heard a scared voice go, "someone's coming!"
When she got there, she wondered the park until she found the reason for screaming. Laying on the ground was a person, a soc. Blood poured out around him, mixed with water from the fountain. Valerie's eyebrows furrowed. She kicked him in the face once, then again. Nothing. She let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.
"He's dead, ain't he?" She mumbled to herself. She looked around, unsure of what to do. But she noticed the frame of a small boy with dark hair poking out of a bush behind her.
"You can come out," She called. "I ain't gonna rat ya out." One boy came out first. He had tan skin and scared, dark eyes that matched his hair. On his cheek was a small, deep scar.
Ponyboy followed. He was soaking wet. His normally greasy hair was dripping with water. Valerie frowned.
"What the hell have you gotten yourself into?"
"Valerie...?" Ponyboy was panting. Valerie jogged over to the kids.
"Ponyboy, what in hell is goin on?" She attempted to keep her voice at a whisper, but was failing.
"It was an accident." He pleaded. She cocked an eyebrow.
"How do you accidentally stab someone?" She hissed.
"They were drowning him-
"Johnny it's okay." Ponyboy interrupted. He places a hand on Johnny's shoulder. Valerie looked at the two for a while. They were cold and scared. Ponyboy was shivering and so was Johnny. She frowned.
"You two got somewhere you can go to get away from the fuzz?" She asked. They nodded. She slipped off her leather jacket and handed it to Ponyboy.
"Go." Ponyboy took the jacket and they began to walk off. Ponyboy stopped and turned around.
"I don't know what's gonna happen. But tell Darry and Soda I love them, if you see them." Valerie paused for a moment, then nodded. The two ran off.
Valerie turned around and looked at the dead body. She growled at him.
"Trying to drown a little kid?" She hissed at him and kicked it his body in the face one final time.
"Disgusting."
And she walked off.
