Summary: Seonghwa, a travelling musician, is captivated by a small man enetering the motel he's staying in.
Anonymous requestSeonghwa packed up his things and called for his cat, Byeol, who jumped up on his instrument case and meowed, flicking her tail. He cooed at her and started walking to the nearest motel. Sure, he had a vehicle, but he liked walking. Seonghwa was a traveling singer, and he sometimes wrote his own music. Walking helped inspire him. He was currently in a smaller town but was going to Jeonju next.
When he got there, he checked out of his room and loaded up his small car so he could be on the way to Jeonju. Seonghwa didn't make much money and preferred not to waste it on gas. Seonghwa set a tin of cat food on the floor for Byeol and started on his way, humming as he drove. Most people assumed that he was living a terrible life and felt sorry for him. But Seonghwa chose this life. It was a combination of his favorite things: singing and traveling. True, he had no friends or love life and wasn't on speaking terms with his family, but he was content.
It was misty when he arrived at a cheap motel in Jeonju, and it looked like it would rain any second. He hurried inside to check into a room.
Once he got inside, he first went to the window and watched the rain. He saw a smaller man dash through the parking lot with a large bag that looked like it was carrying... paintings, almost. Seonghwa didn't know why, but he felt drawn to a person for the first time.
He gave Byeol a quick pat on the head and ran out of his room to try and find the small man. Immediately crashing into someone.
He stood up to see the stranger he so desperately wanted to meet on the floor, his bag next to him and his clothes wet from the rain. He extended a hand to help him up and said, "Hi, I'm Seonghwa, need some help?"
The man on the floor smiled and took Seonghwa's hand; the older couldn't help but notice the size difference. "I'm Hongjoong, Sorry for running into you, I was about to check into a room. I'll be out of your hair-"
"Oh, it's fine. Here, let me carry these for you," Seonghwa interrupted. Hongjoong smiled, and Seonghwa followed him as he checked into his room and found it.
"Thank you so much for carrying my paintings for me, I can repay or something if you'd like." Hongjoong bowed, and Seonghwa hummed.
"No need, I just want one thing." "What?"
"To spend more time with you." And who was Hongjoong to resist the tall, beautiful man standing outside his door? Seonghwa gave Hongjoong his room number, and he was, standing outside his door, freshly showered and in a cute pair of pajamas.
He knocked, and immediately the door swung open to reveal Seonghwa, a genuine smile on his face. He was wearing an old t-shirt with some gray sweatpants, a cat standing between his legs.
"She's cute, what's her name?" Hongjoong asked, pointing to Byeol.
"Her name is Byeol," Seonghwa answered as he stepped aside to make room for Hongjoong to come in. He immediately plopped on the bed and sat criss-cross, bouncing up and down. Seonghwa's heart fluttered, and he sat next to Hongjoong.
"Tell me, what are you doing with a bag of paintings alone at a motel in Jeonju?" "Seonghwa asked. He had never felt this way before; he truly wanted to know everything about this new yet familiar person.
"I travel to different cities and paint all sorts of things. People, buildings, landscapes, animals, even abstract art. I don't get much money out of it, but I love my occupation anyways." The man lit up when he started talking about painting. Even Byeol was captivated, jumping into his lap and watching as he spoke.
"It feels like how do I explain it? Like-"
"Like the whole world is your home, that you can go anywhere and do anything. You're your own boss, you control your life and where you go, what you do. People ask if you feel lonely, and you admit that you don't have people to go to, but your trade is your partner," Seonghwa described. Hongjoong gaped in awe; Seonghwa perfectly explained how he felt about painting."What do you do? Are you a musician?" Hongjoong asked, pointing to the instruments on the floor.
"I'm a travelling singer. I play the guitar and I know how to play the piano, but those aren't very portable." Hongjoong's eyes lit up at the mention of pianos.
"I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano!"
Seonghwa giggled at how cute Hongjoong was. "Maybe I can teach you one day."
Both of them couldn't deny the attraction they felt for one another; oddly, they felt comfortable with each other. Neither of them had talked to someone like this for a long time, but they enjoyed each others' company.
At the moment when Hongjoong asked Seonghwa to play the guitar, neither of them realized nor cared how late it was already. But Seonghwa did as Hongjoong asked, more than willing to play the guitar for this boy.
As he strummed the beginning chords, he smiled softly before singing:
"그저 멍하니 너를"계속 바라보다가""그렇게 서 있다가""니가 사라질까봐""다가가고 싶은 맘에""움직이고 싶은난""곤히 잠에 빠진 니눈을 보며""그렇게 하루가 흘러가"He continued his song as Hongjoong listened in awe, loving the beautiful music Seonghwa played.
"그런게 처참히 나가가""너와"
As Seonghwa sang the last words and strummed the final chord, he held eye contact with Hongjoong. Slowly the two leaned in, getting closer and closer until their lips met in a soft kiss. The entire world was forgotten, just the two men, their song, and the kiss they were currently sharing. As they pulled away, they both felt a flutter in their hearts and looked at each other with certainty.
And as the night grew, as they talked it away, although they didn't say it, they both knew that they were truly meant to be.Long lost soulmates, not losing each other this time.
