Sherlocks seccond vows (Johnlock)

(This is set about 2 and a half years after Mary's death. In this au, Rosie was stillborn and Mary was abusive to John afterward so he gets very emotional talking about it. Fluff dw. Enjoy ♡)

3rd person pov

This is easily the hardest thing Sherlock ever had to do. Why are wedding so tedious? Why does John insist on such meanial things like this? As if asking sherlock to write a best man speech at his and Mary's wedding wasn't enough, now John insisted he had to write vows. Why? Its not as though the wedding was exactly traditional: both grooms will wear white suits and black shirts; sherlocks 'best man' is Molly Hooper, clearly not a man; the are getting married in a hotel and above all, there is going to be two grooms and no wives. Why did they have to have vows? Sherlock saw no point in them. Infact, had John not insisted they make their union official, Sherlock wouldn't have married at all. All marriage is, is simply a legal document two people sign in order to share possesions and have an exuse shag whenever they please (which he and John never did anyways as he was asexual, or atleast on the scale but he finds lables almost as tedious as vows, and John doesn't push to have sex 24/7 like most men ). It's boring and a waste but John wants it so sherlock must oblige.

Why was it so hard, aswell? What does he write? Sherlock needs help. Who should he ask?

John? No. Can't show John he can't do it, he'll be looked down upon.

Molly? No, she's busy writing a best man speech and finding a date to go to the wedding with.

Mycroft? Goodness no. Mycroft would never let him live it down. Plus, he hasn't even told his brother about the wedding for fear he would tell mummy before him.

Gavin?

That seems like the best option: he's been the groom to a wedding before so he'll know what to put in it; he helped him with his best mans speech last time and he is John's best man so probably knows what sappy nonesense John would like. Not to mention, Sherlock was informed yesterday that he had finished his best man's speech about a week ago and that it would be significantly shorter then the disaster of a speech Sherlock has presented before.

Yes, Gandalf would do nicely.

Geoff. Help. Vows. Now.- SH

It's Greg and you know it. Bastard. -GL

On my way.- GL

Yes, he was on his way. He was fully aware of Greg's name, it's just he was too easy to mess with so sherlock intentionally deleted everything about lestrade's first name exept that it begins with a G - which is precisely what he was going now.

Garrison arrives about 5 minuets later. He opens the door to see deshevled Sherlock, wrapped in a sheet infront of his laptop, head in hands and groaning in mental agony.

"What do I write?!" Sherlock cries
"Whatever you feel,usualy."
"Well at the present, I feel like this whole big celebration is a waste of time! Why do I need to do this?!" Sherlock waves his hands at the empty document on the screen tgen groans and slams his forehead on the table, forgetting to cushion his head with his arms. Garry chuckles and walks over to offer support.

"You've done this before, what did you say?" Sherloc raises his shining, silver eyes to meet the DI's faded grey ones as he inquires.

"Oh some bullshit about soulmates and how I would never be unfaithful. I mean, I was right. It's just she wasnt my soulmate and she didn't promise shit." Sherlock groans again. He hates hearing Gertrude bitch and moan about his ex wife. Lestrade had been divorced from his wife for about half a year now and all he does is complain about how she was chatting up other men during the whole of their marriage. Sherlock had warned against the union but lestrade took no notice.

"As interesting as talking about your shitty ex wife is, can you please help me with this speech!"

Graham clears his throat and draws a chair beside the semi-nude consulting detective who he calls his friend.

"Just imagine your telling John about how much you love him. These vows are only to tell the person your marrying how much you love them."

"Yes but vows are promises and I can't guarantee him anything but trouble. What can I offer such a brilliant man like him?"

"Ohh thats good! Write that down! That'll be a great opener!"

After about an hour, they were done writing and proofreading the speech.  It was definately better than anything Sherlock could have done alone and was almost guaranteed to be loved by John.

Three weeks later, John and Sherlock stood infront of an official and placed rings on eachothers fingers. John had said his vows with much enthusiasm. He told Sherlock about how much he cared, his hopes and dreams for them, he told him his wants and admitted his faults. It was beautiful; it brought tears to most of the room( everyone exept Mycroft and Harry- who nobody even expected to attend). Now was Sherlocks go. The slender man stares to shake, his pale hands tremmour and almost drop the ring. He is so nervous. They were getting married and had never even openly said they loved eachother, atlease not infront of people. Why can't it just be him and John?

Sherlock bites his lip and focuses on the ring in his hand. His eyes begin to well and he questions everything. Not the wedding or his love to John; he wants this more than anything and he loves the man before him more than love itself. He begins to wonder what John sees in him. Doubt fills his mind. What if he and John ends up like Greg and his ex - or worse, John and Mary?

Fear hits him. He feels a gentle hand on his cheek. He looks into ocean eyes. He looks into the blue etes he fell in love with, the eyes which held him, the eyes which saved him and who he had saved in return.  He smiled and began to speak.

"When I wrote the words I'm speaking now, I asked why you love me. I'm a stubborn, arrogant, lazy, drug-addicted sociopath who always regarded love as trivial. I was always told love is a weakness, a chemical defect found in the loosing side. Clearly I was right. Love is weakness. Love drives me to my edge, breaks me to peices and makes me loose all will to survive. But it also is the very thing that keeps me breathing. John, without you I would be nothing. If I hadn't found you I'm certain I would be dead. And I'm certain that one day you will be the death of me.

The last time you were in union, i made a vow which I was certain would be my last. "

John dropped his head in shame and fear at the thought of Mary.

"And it is clear now that a vow is a promise you cannot break. I cannot promise you anything but trouble and pain. So I won't promise you anything at all. I will simply say the truth which is as long as I live, I will love you with every breath I have in me. And even when I die, I will love you forever more. When creation ceases and the universe falls to dust, I will love you."

Tears fall down the faces of both the grooms. Sherlock slips a golden ring onto his soulmates finger and kisses the hand upon which it lays.

"This is my one and only true vow."
