I never saw Ripper again. After I healed, I was taken away to some kind of reserve for dinosaurs. There were other raptors there, and I soon found myself in a pack. We were numerous and strong, and never went hungry. There were infants too, chirping happily and causing mischief. It was beautiful. This was a real pack. But, it could never compare to the times me and Ripper shared together. Or my sisters'. I missed Ripper a lot. I wondered where he was now, how he was doing. I hoped he stopped waiting for me, and carried on with his life. He didn't deserve to be kept waiting.
For a while, when I first got here, I tried to escape, and make my way back to the plains. I didn't get very far, and I soon realised that it was better to stay here than make the perilous journey back. Sometimes, I dreamed of him, and his berry-bright eyes and big teeth. He was never in a nightmare, he was always in my good dreams, playing with me or hunting with me. He was like a brother to me. I would always remember him, throughout my whole life. A movement at my belly brought me back to the present. Of course. I would tell my future generations of him too.
My gaze was brought to the entrance of my new den. Speckles. He came through, his feathers quivering, and his loving gaze on me. I was lucky to have found a mate like him. He settled down near me.
"Is it time?" He asked eagerly. I nodded. We both turned to look at the little egg beside me, comfortably nestled in the bed of heather, moss and feathers. Hairline cracks crisscrossed the surface, and the shell moved and shifted as the little raptor inside began to push it's way into the world. Suddenly, some of the top shell came away, and a little head poked out. A head with berry-bright eyes and big teeth. A little boy. Then, it came to me. I knew what I wanted to call him. I think I've always known, ever since I realised I was expecting. He squeaked happily, and began to clambered out his shell. Speckles cooed, nudging him with his nose, and I too rumbled a purr. As the baby flopped onto the nest, out of the egg, he looked eagerly at me and his father. I smiled. Little Ripper.

The end.
