Avalon's POV

Present/ 17 years old

I walk out of AP English with a smile on my face, I just aced my quiz. I've studied so fucking hard for this test that my eyes feel like they are going to fall out of my face.

I make my way to lunch to see Jace, Nora, and Josie, today we decided we were going to go get ice cream for lunch, which I am not excited for, for multiple reasons..

"Hey Lonnie, hurry the hell up, I want to eat." I look over at Jace and flip him the bird, and he laughs.

I walk over to them and hold my paper up, "Guess who aced their FIRST English test."

"Aw shit no way, congrats, babe." Josie says as she gives me a hug and kisses me on the cheek.

"Thank you." I tell Josie, "Now lets go, I feel like getting there before dark."

After a long car ride to a new ice cream stand, we finally get out of the car and walk up to it. Everyone else orders their stuff while I try and figure out if its worth it, eating all those calories.

Fuck it, I walk up to the stand and order a plain chocolate with chocolate sprinkles.

I wait patiently for my ice cream, "Here you go, dear."

I turn and look at the middle-aged lady holding my ice cream out the window, I grab it from her, "Thank you." I say as I walk over to the picnic table and sit down next to Jace.

"Girl, you ordered the plainest ice cream out there."Nora says, eyeing my ice cream with disgust.

I laugh, "I just wanted something simple."

"Yeah, I can tell."

"Shut up."

We stare at each other for a second and then break out in laughs.

"Y'all are so weird, fighting over the littlest shit."

I look over at Jace and narrow my eyes, "We do not."

"Yes, you do, you guys basically just fought because you have the plainest ice cream."

I huff and turn around in my seat, eating my ice cream carefully, making sure not to inhale it. I dont want other people around up looking at me because I can't wait to take another bite, I hate when people stare at me when I eat.

We finish up our ice cream, deciding that we were just going to skip the rest of the day and go to my house to watch movies. We get into Jaces car and Josie speaks up, "um guys?" we all turn to look at her, "Me and Nora have to go somewhere, can you drop us off at the Mitchell house?"

"Why the hell are you going over there?" Jace asks, looking at her through the rear-view mirror.

"Our dads are having dinner together with Kate's dad and he wants us to come with him."

"Oh, okay." He says, then turns over to look at me and smirks, "you fine with hanging with only me?"

I laugh, "yes."

We drop Josie and Nora off at the Mitchell house, which is about twenty minutes out of our way, and then start to drive home.

For the next twenty minutes, me and Jace are jamming out to some Adele, singing our hearts out. Specifically, on 'set fire to the rain', its our favorite to sing when were alone, which is quite often nowadays.

Jace is always trying to get me alone, I assume he still only likes me as friends, but somedays he gets really close and I don't know how to tell him I can't like him, I haven't had feelings for anyone since. well, you know who.

I don't think Im capable of liking someone anymore, maybe its because of my dad. Every night he comes in my room, I'm scared hell go all the way, I can't let that happen. I have to fight back one of these days. And I will, when I'm strong enough to fully hurt him, bad.

"Lonnie?"

I shake my head and look at Jace, "yes?"

"Were here," he says, "you were spaced out. You, okay?"

I nod and grab the door handle and get out, walking up to the front door and fishing out my keys from my bookbag. Walking into my house instantly makes me exhausted, like I already want to leave again.

When I walk into the living room, I freeze, not knowing if I was seeing things, I rub my eyes. I look at the two figures sitting on my couch, I open my mouth to say something but he cuts me off, smiling softly.

"Hey princess."
