(your pov)

im sitting at my desk writing in my poem book when my alarm quietly goes off, of turn it off and check the time '4:00 am' i sigh and rub my eyes a bit before closing my notebook and quietly putting it in my bookbag so as not to forget it and start to get dressed as quietly as i could.

This will be my first day at Phoenix Drop High. I'm kind of excited or maybe a little nervous but really I'm more relieved that my mom actually let me go to school even if we had to lie to them about my species. You see, I'm a vampire, which to most is a red flag on its own but I'm not just any vampire. I am the camarilla, the first and strongest of my kind, my mother was the camarilla before me but she passed giving birth to me so I've had the title since infancy.

Fortunately, unlike the ultima, whose eyes change people into werewolves, it is my bite that changes them into vampires. Unfortunately because of that I've had to wear a mask for most of my life, or just not smile, due to my longer-than-average fangs, nut this time we had to be extra precautious so mom had me file down my canines. my jaw is still a bit sore and solid foods are hard to eat but its better than being found out. Now the mask doesn't cover my entire face thankfully, just my mouth and nose, though it does make me look a bit "emo" i don't mind. anyway i finish getting dressed but before i leave i have to put on my amulet, a blue crystal shaped like a crescent moon and wrapped with a silver chain It makes it so that i don't burn up in the sun, it cant do anything about my hunger unfortunately but i can manage.

Fun fact vampires don't actually burn up in the sun they're just more prone to sun burns, garlic allergies and ocd, but I'm special or "built different" as I've heard people on the internet say.

...

Anyway, I grab my bookbag and head downstairs as quietly as possible skipping over the step that was always particularly creaky mom is either not awake yet or at work but either way i don't want to risk waking her up, and despite what you may think no she's not a vampire, technically she's my step mom but she doesn't like me calling her that. she's been distant since my father passed but i don't blame her too much, everyone grieves in their own time the least i can do is the cooking and cleaning so she doesn't have to.

I sigh and check the time while opening the door, 4:30, and almost run face first into the ultima's chest who has his hand up as if to knock, seems i interrupted him just in time thank goodness. "ah- good morning... uh, Aaron" i say remembering his name halfway through, he grunts in response puts his hands in his pockets and starts towards a kind of beat up old black truck, one of the ones with the back you can put stuff in. i almost trip rushing after him and get in after he unlocks the doors

"put your seatbelt on," he muttered and i quickly do so hugging my bag close to my chest, he starts up the car putting on his own seatbelt and i  take this opportunity to take in his features. hes taller than me and in the same uniform I was just much less organized, his skin was tanned but if it was from sun or just birth given melanin i could not tell and i couldn't remember his mothers details enough to compare, his hair short black and unkempt like he woke up either in his uniform or threw it right on without care a large contrast to how smooth i kept mine, must be another freshman vs senior thing, and a band aid over his left cheek i wonder what happened to warrant a band aid but i don't pry, he seems agitated enough he has to babysit me so i wont make it harder on him by being annoying.

we drive for a while music quietly playing from the radio

~time skip~

We walk off and Aaron helps me find my homeroom.

Despite first impressions being less than stellar he's actually a pretty decent person.

I take a seat in the back next to a goth kid and start reading my poetry book.

A few minutes later the teacher starts taking a role before a raven-haired girl with dark skin walks in slightly out of breath.

The teacher sighs heavily and says "stop. Wait let me guess?"

the girl interrupts him "I'm so sorry I don't know this place very well and i-"

then the teacher interrupts her "the cliche 'I'm late because I'm new!' excuse right? You're lucky today is the first day and that you're a freshman, the school sent out orientation packets during the summer and-"

"I was homeschooled!" she nearly shouts interrupting again, I can already hear a few other kids chuckling.

"oh i see" the teacher continues "well then I won't give you flack for that. What's your name?" he asks

"it Aphmau sh-"

"ah I see your name" he interrupts again "very unique, now take a seat we're just about done calling role."

Aphmau takes a seat between me and a white-haired kid, and once she does the teacher continues.

"Now let's see... Nichole von Ron'sonburg."
"present" a red-headed girl

"kawaii~chan?"
"Present!" a pink-haired mei-fwa

"Travis Val-crumb"
"p-present" the kid with the white hair

"(y/n) (l/n)"
"present" me

"And last is, Zane Ro'meave?" the black-haired boy, who I probably would have mistaken for a another vampire if I weren't paying attention mostly because he's wearing a similar mask to mine, scoffs and says "...here"

"Ro'meave? Are you related to-"

"yes-sigh-i am..."

"you've got a big name to live up to! I expect great things from you!"

"hmph!" the kid crosses his arms at the less-than-stellar name drop.

'it sounds like he gets asked that question all too much'

"Alright, class! You can all mingle then we'll head on over to the club social"

'mingle? Who says mingle anymore'

I sigh before going back to my poems.

After a couple of minutes, the teacher speaks up again.

"Alright, class! We're heading up to meet all the clubs and upperclassmen, take your stuff with you, line up, and let's get going!"

I put a placeholder on the page I was reading, put on my book bag, and head out of the door with the rest of my class.
