Sage wasn't sure why they kept shutting Ethan down. There was no way of convincing themselves it was a joke. Maybe they were scared he'd leave them when he realises they're actually seriously not a girl. but he knows? and likes them anyway? none of it made sense

he was kinda cute to sage ... in an extremely annoying way. it annoyed them how his hair was fluffy somedays and flat others. it annoyed sage that he wasn't quite 6ft but was taller than 5'11ft. and it annoyed them even more that they knew that. sure,  they wanted to go on the date.
wait-
THEY WANTED THE DATE?!?! Sage's head felt as if it were going to explode in realisation. A pounding mess of fear and worry and regret swarmed their mind and dizziness and sickness consumed them all at once. There endless panic and sickness were interrupted by "Zoe. go to the nurse you look sick"

Zoe. they fucking hated the name Zoe. They had no energy to argue their name, which the teachers knew to call them and was changed since year 8.

They simply got up and walked along to the nurse. "Hi miss. I was told to go here because i-" they were cut off by them running to the bin to puke. nerves? god if thinking they maybe slightly a little bit might like Ethan did THIS to them then an actual date would surely kill them.

"Oh heavens Sage. sit down, ill ring your mum." the nurse said carefully as she pulled a seat out for Sage.

Sage quickly remembered their plans to meet Elle at lunch
