APOLLO
I hated Luka.
As much as I loved him, I hated him too.
I hated him with every fiber of my being, and I loved him with every tiny molecule that made up my soul.
It was complicated. Very much so.
Some days the scale would tip in a certain direction. Some days I tried to kill him, some days I forced him to live.
This violent yo-yo of emotions played tricks on my mind. I could have sworn I would die for this cruel human. And occasionally, I would— but there were also days that I'd rather him be dead.
Still, there were memories of a benevolent Master that nurtured and protected me with the entirety of his being. Where did he go?
I killed him.
I wished I could take back the bites, the clawings, the mauling. But that was just not how it worked, unfortunately.
Now I was facing the consequences of my actions: a terrifyingly, emotionally-absent human that was in charge of my entire life.
My melancholic state lasted until Luka turned onto a dirt road—then, it turned to equal parts curiosity and terror. Sitting up, I saw that we were surrounded on each side by deciduous trees in bright shades of green. He forest was thick and lush. Occasionally, a deer, or an opossum, or a raccoon, or a rabbit would skitter into the woods from the roadside.
We were on the dirt road for approximately twenty minutes before stumbling upon an about ten foot tall, barb-wire topped chain-link fence.
Luka whipped out his cell phone and dialed a number from memory. Two rings, and a familiar voice answered.
"Hey, Luka. Safe trip?" The voice asked.
"Hey, Mateo. Relatively safe. We're both in one piece."
"That's good to hear." The human on the other end of the phone replied, "I'll come on up to the gate and let you in!"
"Thanks! See you soon!" Luka hummed blithely.
"See ya." Mateo responded, and my Master hung up the phone.
We waited for only a few minutes before a golf cart rolled up to the giant gate. Mateo hopped off and manually opened it, waving Luka in as the gate became wide enough to swallow us whole.
The car started to progress again. Anxiety took its claws and hooked them into my heart, squeezing and squeezing until I couldn't breathe.
I didn't want to do this.
"Luka," I whined helplessly, "Please don't make me do this!"
"Little too late for that, hun." My Master hummed, unaffected. "Don't worry. All you'll feel is pleasure. The drugs will make sure of that."
A gargantuan groan left my lips. There was no getting out of this. Not unless I ripped my nuts off.
I paused on the thought for a moment, but quickly discarded it.
A shallow, shaky breath entered my lungs. Then another, and another, and another, until I was hyperventilating. The binds were choking me. I was sure of it.
"Master!" I whimpered, "I can't breathe! I can't breathe!"
"It's okay, Apollo." Luka spoke low and soothingly. "Just focus on the sound of my voice. Breathe through your belly."
I struggled to do as my Master commanded me.
"Breathe with me, Apollo." He said, "Iiiiin...."
I held onto a disoriented, shaking breath.
"....Ouuuut." The human finally said, and I huffed the breath out in a hurry.
Maybe ten breaths went by before I noticed I wasn't hyperventilating anymore. Anxiety still sat on my chest like an elephant, but it wasn't quite so heavy anymore.
Eventually, the cafe rolled to a stop in front of a grand estate. The grounds were immaculately kept and precisely-manicured. The dirt road terminated in a two-car-wide, circular driveway, with a pond in the center.
Upon closer inspection, the central pond was filled with an army of arm-length koi fish and small turtles, the latter of which perched on logs and rocks jutting out from the water. In the middle of the pond was a jet spraying the clear liquid at least fifteen feet straight up into the air.
Our SUV followed Mateo's golf cart around the circular driveway and to a vehicle bay on the left side of the estate. Two lackeys dressed in suits approached as we parked in the middle of the bay. Mateo wordlessly handed his keys to one of the lackeys, the other attended to Luka, who was a little surprised, but still placed his keys in the attendants hands gracefully.
"Oh, one minute! I have to fetch my lionheart and my luggage!" Luka stopped the man.
"No need to worry about your luggage, Dr. Fryre." The lackey assured him, "Dr. Gonzalez has instructed me to carry it to your room."
"My room?" My human asked the other human.
Mateo spoke up from where he stood across the bay. "Oh, I forgot to mention, I'd love to have you stay the night!" The tan human crossed the distance between them. "I've prepared the guest suite for you. I'd like to get to know you and Apollo a little bit better." Mateo chuckled a little bit. "We could also get two claws in."
"Sure! I'd be happy to take you up on your offer." Luka hummed, "Oh, don't let me forget my lionheart!" He laughed.
Not a moment later, he was popping open the trunk, and then my crate.
"Need a hand?" Mateo asked, strolling over to us. "Whatcha got him all tied up for?"
"He didn't want to come." Luka laughed through his words.
"Really?" The other doctor hummed with amazement.
Luka shrugged. "He has some trauma around sex, and just lost his first fledgeling. He's allowed to have big feelings."
"I'd say so." Mateo agreed.
I was really, really tired of humans talking about me like I wasn't there.
Luka beckoned me closer. Once I scooted close enough to him, he got to work unbinding my ankles. As soon as the leather came off I stretched the biggest stretch I'd ever stretched in my life.
"Ooooh!" Mateo emphasized, "Streeeetch!"
My Master chuckled with the other man.
"Okay," he began, "C'mere, Apollo!"
As much as I hated Luka right now, it was awfully cramped in the back of the van, and I was desperate to get out after an eight-hour roadtrip. Coming just a bit closer, Luka fished his trusty, braided four-footer lead from the pocket of his jeans and clipped it to my collar.
After the leather binds around my ankles were untied, I was led out of my cage feet-first. Luka kept a white-knuckle grip on the leash, as if I was going to bolt at any moment. Had he not had that white-knuckle grip, I probably would have been gone in two seconds flat.
Mateo took us on a comprehensive tour of his estate.
"Here is the business center." He hummed.
His mansion opened up through double-doors into a business center. Floor-to-ceiling windows made up the walls. A lavishly-large, marble-topped front desk stood at the back wall maybe a hundred feet away. A couple of arm chairs were placed to the left and right of the main doorway, in a type of lobby.
As we passed behind the front desk through a wide hallway, I peeked into a room on the left. Eating up the other space to the left of the doorway was a massive oval-shaped table with executive chairs at every place and a ginormous green screen for PowerPoint presentations.
"Of course, the living room, for handlers only." The host motioned to the next room.
A truly monstrous living room, complete with a huge sectional and absolutely humongous TV on the left wall, an equally-giant fish-only saltwater tank separating the room from the dining room. A few humans milled around, all exchanging brief pleasantries with Luka and Mateo.
"The pack and handlers eat their meals here." Mateo stated.
The dining room stretched out triple the length of the living room. Like at Blue Moon, an incredibly long table with matching chairs— made of cherry wood— was situated in the center of the dining room, running length-wise.
"Here is the chef's kitchen." Mateo stopped at the threshold. "Sorry, can't take a closer look right here. No lionhearts past this point."
On the opposite end of the dining room was an industrial kitchen with all of the fixings. We only poked our heads in there; no birds allowed.
To the right of the living room/dining room/kitchen was a wrap-around porch, adorned with many swings and potted plants.
Mateo spoke about me this time. "If Apollo is too cool to hang out with his handler, he can spend his time in here or on the grounds."
To the left of the rooms was a set of French doors. Upon entering, I was greeted with a lionheart play space. It was like the birdcage and barn combined: armed with more hides, obstacles, equipment, and comfy objects than any lionheart could want. I almost wanted to stay. One early-riser lionheart poked her head out from a house-shaped hide.
A hallway between the two halves of the estate that we had originally skipped contained a grand staircase.
"Up on the second story are the living quarters. Here, let me show you to the guest suite." Mateo took us up the staircase.
One long hallway with grand windows on either end and doors with numbers plaques lined each side. Mateo led us to a room numbered one-oh-one. Once the plain white door was opened, it revealed a master-sized bedroom with an attached bath. A single four-poster king-size bed was directly in front of us, a wooden trunk at its foot. A white armchair to the left with a bookshelf filled with all manner of novels and a floor lamp, and right a small white sectional.
"Vallet should have your luggage up here shortly." Mateo told my Master, "In the meantime, could we let the birds get to know each other a little better?"
"Of course!" Luka replied happily.
I was really not looking forward to this.
Mateo led us back to the bird paradise. When we entered through the French doors, the other handler fished a bird collar remote out of his pants pocket. Holding down the radio button, he said into the microphone, "Void, your presence is requested in the bird box." A little more lightly, he added, "Your boyfriend is here."
In the time it took Void to arrive, the two doctors chatted about our breeding like I wasn't even in the room. I did my best to block out their conversation.
Finally, Void entered the room through the French doors we also came through. She appeared shy to greet me. Mateo ameliorated this by taking her by the collar and pulling her towards me.
"Why are you bound?" Was Void's first question.
"Because he's a naughty bird." Luka answered, and I almost blushed. "Here, let me get those off of you."
My Master undid the rest of my restrains. First, the binds affixing my wrists together was untied. Next, the mitts came off. Then, the leash. Finally, the muzzle was taken away, leaving red lines all over my cheeks, nose, and mouth.
Now awkward, the other bird and I shifted our weights around uncomfortably.
"Well...." I searched for something to say, before settling on, "Hi, Void."
"Hi, Apollo." She returned. A few more seconds passed before the bird cautiously showed her neck in an act of submission.
Unsure of what to do next, I mrrrred to communicate "That's not necessary."
Void let go of a little hmph! and rooowled back, "You're going to have ten claws and a dick in me soon. I think it's pretty necessary."
Both Luka and I's jaws dropped.
"Does he speak Avic?" Void appeared flabbergasted, and flushed deeply.
I nodded in confirmation. The female buried her face in her hands. "I am so sorry, Sir."
Luka only laughed.
Mateo questioned, "What did she say?"
"And I quote—" My Master cleared his throat, "You are going to have ten claws and a dick in me soon. I think it's pretty necessary." At his colleague's shocked expression, Luka added, "In reference to a neck bare as a sign of submission."
"I think I'm going to die of embarrassment." Void said to herself, before looking up to me to continue, "Can we please find somewhere private?"
"In here?" I was flabbergasted at her forwardness. "It's a little public."
"No, you idiot!" Void hissed, "To talk!"
"Oh. Sorry." I apologized. "Sure."
"Have fun, kids." Mateo waved us off as Void took off, myself following shortly after.
The female led me to a large teepee hide made of genuine brown-and-white cow skins. Once we both sat cross-legged inside, Void sighed an affected sigh.
"What's wrong?" I asked stupidly. I knew what was wrong.
"I just feel like shit." She confessed. Okay, maybe I didn't know what was wrong. "I've been dreading this moment ever since I hit puberty."
"Oh." I repeated.
"I don't want to do this. At all. " Void groaned.
"If it makes you feel any better, neither do I." I offered.
The other bird took offense to that. "What, am I not good enough for you?"
"No, no, that's not what I—" I was interrupted.
"I'm just kidding!" Void laughed a few hard laughs. "Sorry, I forgot you haven't been around me except for competitions. Rarely am I serious." A little sigh. "Except for when I say that I don't want to do this. Although, I'm sure I'll love to have you inside of me once they pump me full of drugs."
"Same here." I groaned.
"You'll love to have you inside of you too?" Void snickered.
"This is serious!" I hissed, and the female went quiet. For the third time in my time outside of the Sanctuary, I asked, "What if we run away?"
"And survived how, exactly?" Void countered. "I'm captive-bred, hotshot. I think I'll take my chances pregnant."
"Suit yourself." I grumbled.
Void actually looked angry this time. "You," she growled, "Are infuriating."
Before I even had a chance to retort, Void smashed her lips against mine. I was surprised, but not enough to pull back. The taste of her heat was intoxicating. I missed the way it felt to float in the nothingness of aphrodisiac.
I didn't even think of Blizzard as I kissed the other bird. Guilt was put on hold for a while Void climbed into my lap and straddled me. Her plump pussy ground against my cock and it was all I could do to moan into her mouth.
Maybe I could get behind this whole stud bird thing. Or at least, that's what the aphrodisiac was making me think.
"Okay," the female panted as well separated, "Maybe I do want you."
Void reached down and weaseled her hand into my pants, where it wrapped around my hardening dick. Both of our jaws began chattering with want— just a little bit too loudly.
"Kids?" Mateo asked from his position near the French door before commanding, "Come!"
Begrudgingly, Void hoped off my lap. I positioned my dick in such a way that it didn't stand at attention. The two of us scrambled up and ran to our Masters.
When we arrived, Mateo spoke with a condescending tone to his voice. "Is it already time to get you two downstairs?"
Void nodded vigorously. I, on the other hand, was quickly metabolizing the small dose of aphrodisiac I'd been administered. I thought of my mate, and then I thought about turning tail to run. Right as I shifted my weight to sprint, Luka snagged me by my collar. Producing my leash from around his shoulders, the human hooked me and wrapped the handle around his tight fist.
"We're going to need to drug him either way, so let's just get it done now." My Master betrayed me.
"Alright," Mateo hummed, "Let's get these two lovebirds situated!"
Panic started to set its fangs into me. Luka noticed this, and set a calming hand on my shoulder, where it rubbed and massaged as Mateo led us out of the bird box. The hand on my shoulder had two meanings: "I've got you, don't be scared." and "I've got you, don't you dare try to run.".
The human in charge escorted us to the hallway the staircase. This time, however, we went in the opposite direction, and saw that there was an identical staircase leading down into the depths of a basement. Each step down lowered me into a new path that I wasn't sure I could escape from.
The staircase terminated in a small level area with set of metal double doors. Mateo walked up to a handprint scanner affixed to the doors and put his right palm on the device. It whirred to life and let loose a green laser beam that scanned the man's hand— it reminded me of the Sanctuary. Not long after, the doors unlocked with a little click, and Mateo held them open for us.
With white, popcorn walls and linoleum flooring, it was starting to remind me more and more of my old....home? Prison?
The double doors opened up into a rather comfortable looking waiting room. To the left was a receptionist's counter, and on the perimeter was many a recliner and couch, all fitting in the monochrome navy and white color scheme of the room.
In the center of the room was where the action was— furniture for birds. Two little hides, on the right, a relatively-large plastic stump with enough room for two inside and one on top. To the left of that sat a huge, yellow-carpeted banana. Or rather, a banana peel: it was missing the actual flesh part. It was more of a banana-shaped cave with the roof half peeled back. It looked like it closed with a hook-and-loop mechanism for total isolation.
When Mateo told us, "Please wait here for a few minutes while I get Void ready." and walked out of the room with the bird in question, I was quick to jump into the banana and seal myself away from the world.
Apparently that was funny, because Luka, the only other creature left in the room, burst into uproarious laughter.
"What?" I grumbled from my fuzzy cave.
"I just wasn't expecting that." The human said through dying chuckles and wiping away tears.
About ten minutes passed until Mateo returned. Luka summoned me out of my hide, and the other handler ushered us through a single-wide door in the back left corner of the room, again made of thick metal. This one also had a hand scanner, which Mateo activated with ease. Once again, the door was held open for the two of us, and soon the handler joined us on the other side.
A corridor sat ahead of us. Three doors on the left, three doors on the right, one straight down at the end of the hallways. Each door had a label: Collection (01), and Observation (02), and Pairing (03) on the left, followed by Executive (4) in the center, and Exam (5), Radiology (6), and OR (7).
Mateo led us to Exam (5) on the right. Inside, a friendly, latino and male human greeted Luka with a handshake and a, "Hello, Dr. Fryre. I'm Dr. Cooper. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
I inspected the new addition carefully. Dr. Cooper was tall, just barely taller than me, and wore a white coat with gray dress pants and a teal polo underneath. With age wrinkles, shoulder-length, curly black hair and soft brown eyes, he didn't look very intimidating. I let my guard down just a little bit.
"And you," he moved to make eye contact me with, "Must be Apollo! It's good to meet you too."
Taken aback at his politeness, I was unsure of how to proceed for a moment. I settled on a show of human gratitude.
"Thank you." I murmured.
"My pleasure!" The human hummed, and stuck out a hand to me.
My head cocked.
"He wants you to shake his hand, hun." Luka whispered to me.
I took the hand loosely, moving it up and down. This seemed to please the human.
"Do you mind taking a seat on the exam table, Apollo?" Dr. Cooper asked politely.
Okay, this is starting to get a little bit weird.
Just as I was told, I clambered up onto the paper-coated table. Dr. Cooper proceeded to poke and prod me. He took my temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, listened to my lungs, and then he was done.
"Apollo," The doctor addressed me, "I'm going to give you a nebulizer treatment. Do you know what that is?"
I shook my head No.
"I'm going to put a plastic cup over your mouth, and medicine is going to enter it through this tube." Dr. Cooper pointed to the different parts of the device, then pretended to put it on himself to demonstrate. "Just like a muzzle." He clarified, "Take slow, deep breaths for me. Okay?"
Looking to my Master for reassurance, the human hummed, "Go ahead, hun. It's okay."
I made hard eye contact with Dr. Cooper. "What's going to happen when I take this?" I pushed.
"You'll feel great." He smiled a friendly smile, affixing the mask gently onto my face.
A little button was pressed on a small device on the other end of the tube. Soon, the mask was flooded was something familiar. Something musky, and a hundred times stronger than before.
My body reacted near instantly. Claws slid out of fingertips. Dull teeth turned to sharpened fangs. Feathers were ruffled, wings puffing up with arousal. Fuzzy and spinning, my brain seemed to turn off all rational processing. Embarrassingly, blood rushed from my body into my penis, and I got a raging hard-on.
I wanted to scratch off the demented mask.... But my body loved the feeling too much to let my mind take over.
"Apollo?" Dr. Cooper addressed me, "Remember to take some deep breaths for me."
Something deep inside of me, now locked away in a little box in the recesses of my brain, wailed for Blizzard. Caterwauled for this to stop. Screamed for me to run.
But the fuzzy feeling that tangled up my thoughts made me do exactly what I was told, and soon, I was completely gone.
