Claudia woke up an hour earlier than usual to get ready for school. Today was the championship game and she had to prove that her position as head cheerleader was earned. After having clawed her way up the social ladder, she had high standards to uphold.
She smoothed out her skirt and twirled a perfectly curled strand of hair around her finger.
"Mike, Claudia! You have two minutes or I'm leaving without you!" Nancy yells through the door.
She grabs her backpack and heads downstairs to meet Nancy. She still has to get rides to school ever since she got caught steeling her mom's car.
"Don't you look adorable." Mrs. Wheeler says and boops Claudia's nose.
Mike rushes down the stairs and throws two poptarts in the toaster.
"Let's gooooooo!" Nancy jangles her keys and Mike follows them out the door.
"Do you want one?" Mike says, mouth full.
"I'm good." Claudia laughs and gets in the front seat.
"Mike, why do you insist on wearing that shirt?" Nancy says, looking at him through the rear view mirror.
