"You knew from start, that she was not there, that she was never on bus?"
"Who told you? Voices!!! Whose?"
"Nobody told me. There aren't voices. I just can read".
"What kind of things?"
"Inside of head".
"What you saw into mine!"
"That you lied to save them".
Beth was waiting for them but Evan and Ari was busy conversing.
Brandon was there with Beth guessing- What a six year old can talk about? He asked Beth if she also thinks that Evan has grown faster and he meant was with his talks. Beth couldn't answer him, she didn't wanted to admit that Evan was not like everybody else, She knew that he got something special but she was worried, worried if he couldn't handle it, worried for it may cost him. She could sense him losing his empathies. His dad died and what he said was- Mom please don't act like this for that guy. Despite whatever that man wanted to do with him or us, he was still his father, she thought. Even she had idea of what Harris could do but she couldn't hate him.
Beth let Evan spent more time with Ari because whenever he return from her he hold smile on his face which she rarely could put, on him. Brandon and Beth waited for little long while they talked.
"I couldn't understand something".
"And what was that Evan?"
"That it was Maria or you, who wanted to save them? I believe it was you".
"It was Maria, Evan!"
"But she only ask you to save Sam and you think of everybody".
"But I couldn't save them all".
"That was not your fault".
"Evan... sometimes I'm worried about you". The boy had talked beyond his age again.
"If you still want me to see a Doctor, I will then".
"I'm glad you agreed".
It took three years but lastly she convinced him. She had taken many sessions and therapies for the voices she could hear and it has been month since she never heard Maria again.
Her doctor has suggested her to talk with Maria often and so that her brain can stop assuming what Maria might want to say and now when Maria and she have better relation, her voices had stopped. Maria's voices that she could hear was gone now and she wanted Evan to lose things he could read, she didn't want him to get used to them, she didn't want him be trapped by them, to be hold by them because like Beth she knew they can cost. It had cost her too (remember of Misery she was in) and could have done worse if she had not decided to get rid of those voices. They had cost Harris too; his life.
Ari turned to him, gave him flowers. He then put those around the fence where Beth and Brandon had put earlier; it was the same day Harris died and they come here each year on this day. Evan agreed to come when Ariana said she will drop Beth and Brandon there. He turned and smiled to Ari putting those flowers, each time he does she wants to ask about the burnt mark on his jaw.
He touched that mark as if he heard her asking about.
"Dad used to do cigarettes".
"He did that to you".
"He was sorry for but he had to stop me or I would have tell Mom"
"She didn't knew about his cigarettes?"
"She pretended not to".
"How can he do that to you".
"He once...nothing; He was just capable of more"
"He once what? What he was capable of?"- she asked and realised she should not.
"It's fine, it you don't want to talk more about".
"He once let the gas on..., I and Brad were at home and mom at work; the first time he tried killing us was then."
"I want to believe you, trust me I do but lets us not talk about this to ever and anybody".
"I understand that much".
"Hmm, I know you do...lets go back; they are waiting for us".
They both then return from those refurbished fences and joined Beth and Brandon waiting for them into car. They returned home and Evan had promised Ari to visit doctor with her. She even got him a appointment. He soon will be able to stop reading minds.
Ari was thinking about Evan and what lie she had made to save everyone. She was driving when she for the first time heard Maria's voice asking her to save Sam; she was about to get into accident if had not pulled steering back. She ignored those at first but once Maria was gone she had to believe into those. Maria's voice kept asking to rescue Sam and even mention about bus and when Ari got news of fallen bus and that Samuel was there in she couldn't think of anything else but to lie to assemblyman to save everybody, she found that as her only way. That was just starting...with those voices, they were having their minor effect on Ariana. They made her act in front of Edward. They make her taste the fun in fooling others but she wasn't something that easy. Ariana decided to crush those voices playing games with her. Before they could come and stay she threw them out.
Ari has witnessed Evan's capabilities of reading, she believed in him about Harris. Evan might have seen inside of Harris. Evan had seen his dry oceans for them. She was finally home after dropping them at theirs and hall wasn't at awkward silence this time. Maria came running down the stairs with a huge smile and as she reached near.... Ari hugged her, kissed her forehead and was looking at her face holding that in between her hands.
She remembered how miserably she ran to assemblyman's cabin to announce her lie. She had said that-
"Maria was on the bus".
And she was never.
