Marcus pov:
I left Holly at the cabin and headed into the woods, going in the direction of my beta's howl. I knew there was trouble, there always is when Dallas calls out like that. Usually, it ends up being something that Luke has done, but this howl sounded different from that.
As soon as I was well hidden from prying eyes - in this case, Holly - I stripped off my swimming trunks and shifted into my marble-colored - a mix of grey, white, and black - wolf. Setting my slightly-larger-than-a-normal-wolf's paws on the ground, I ran to find my beta. It didn't take long to find the black wolf in the thick of the tree-dominated woods.
'Is it Luke?' I asked through our minds.
Dallas shook his large head. 'There are traps everywhere, covering the Northern part of the woods. Vallery got caught in one - almost took her hand clean off. Harris was able to fix her up, though.' His voice held more anger than it usually did.
I gave a frustrated sigh. They've gone too far. The Simmons knew that they were forbidden to step foot in that part of the woods - little kids often play there, werewolf and human alike. The human kids would obviously be there with a parent to watch them. - for "hunting". I let out a furious growl. Those werewolf hunters had crossed the line, and it would only be a matter of time before they trained Hunter and Layla. Once those two would learn about our existence, they'd become just like their parents. I won't have Holly put in danger like that. She trusted them, much to my distaste, and wouldn't think twice about being leered somewhere alone with them. I let out a blood-curdling growl, making Dallas take a few steps back. It isn't good for a werewolf to lose control, especially on in its wolf form - we lose our humanity and let the animal take the reins for as long as it needs, not a good thing to happen.
'I want you, Ellcie, Tilly, Jullian, and Luke to go around the woods, not just the Northern part, and gather all the traps you can find. I want Timothy and Alana helping Vallery, if it is needed. If she's fully healed, then the three of them are to stay put,' I ordered.
Dallas nodded.
'When I come back from this weekend getaway we'll hold a meeting, deciding what we'll do about the hunters.'
Dallas gave a firm nod and ran back to town.
I had to calm myself down before I went back to the cabin, back to Holly. I knew once I got back she'd demand an answer as to why I took off to the woods after hearing a wolf's howl. I could always lie and say I knew the howl was one of pain, that the wolf that howled was hurt, or something like that, but the thought of lying to her, to her face, was not something I wanted to do. I don't want to lie to Holly, she's my mate, she doesn't deserve to be lied to like she was any other human being that had no reason to know about any of us. It would be so much easier if Holly would shift already, but with her being away from her true home and mate her whole life, up til now, has caused her wolf to reside, now she must go through the stages of becoming a werewolf. She's got the anger down, and now she's lusting for her mate - I can tell - it's only a matter of time before she starts to fall for me, then shortly following, the event we will all dread and anticipate, her big blow out, before she finally shifts.
I calmed my wolf down and shifted back into my human form, slipping on my trunks, and made my way back to the cabin. I only wish I could have prepared myself better for what I saw.
