A Prince Responsibility

I was riding the horse while Damon was beside me walking. We started to see the huts and soon we were deep in the kingdom. People were bowing to me and I was passing smiles to them. I love my kingdom.

Even tho our kingdom, Greenwood was a small kingdom, we live in peace without any problems. The last war was a very long time ago like about 100 years ago if I remembered correctly.

I stopped my horse and started to get down but-

"Prince Elias, what are you doing?"

"I am gonna kiss you" I snapped at him.

He looked at me like I had grown horns on my head. He was looking like a confused puppy right now and even tho I am annoyed at him, he looks so cute. How can someone be sexy, cute, handsome, hot and just so magical at the same time?

"B-but Prince Elias, we are in public" he stuttered.

I smirked, "so if we were in our room, you would have allowed me to kiss you?"

"We should not discuss these topics, Prince Elias" and he took a step back from me.

Of course when I thought we were getting close.

I ignored him and started to walk on the roads of the kingdom and he was closely following me. While I was strolling one small boy not more than nine years ran towards me and hug my legs tightly, giggling.

Damon was quick to come beside me and stand in an alert position. This guy needs to chill. I kneeled to get on the level of the boy and smiled at him. He looked at me with such innocent wide eyes I thought my breath was taken away for a moment. Damon was looking at us as the boy will stab a knife in my chest.

"Your Highness, I made something for you today. And God makes you come here for me" the kid said with sincerity.

"What is your name?" I queried.

"Autumn, Your Highness" he answered with an adorable bow.

"Do you want to be my friend Autumn?"

And as soon as I finished my words he jumped in my arms and started to giggle happily. I melted in his hug quickly.

"But...." He pulls and stands in front of me with a sad face. I didn't understand the sudden change but my not voiced question was answered soon.

"You must have so many friends, Your Highness. I will be no one among them. You will forget me soon."
He was now having teary eyes while looking at me.

"Actually I don't have many friends and I want you to be my friend. So tell me, would you like to be one?"

He bowed again "it will be my pleasure, your highness".

"So what had you made for me huh?" I queried.

"Oh, let me get it for you" he proposed and run in a direction which I assume is his house.

I smiled at the people that have gathered around me. Some even came ahead to talk about few dilemmas they are facing in the kingdom and I assured them, that they will be dealt with as soon as possible. The kingdom was breathing happiness and clouring in a new beginning with my elder brother to be the soon king. Father has nothing to be worried about I concluded in my mind.

A very enthusiastic sound took my attention. Autumn was running towards me with a flower crown in his hand.

"Your Highness! Your Highness!"

I crouched down on my knees to be on his eye level and open my arms for him. He was quick to jump in my arms and present his beautiful and innocent giggles. Childhood is such a beautiful phase.

Now if I think Damon used to look cute when we were in our childhood. But look him now, all serious and rude to me. He is standing on his foot like a proud man with his eyes and ears on alert for any possible threat. His job is life-threatening and I don't like it a bit. But as you have guessed he doesn't take my this opinion with open hands.

"Your highness, I made this for you."

I looked at the flower crown he was showing me and it was indeed beautiful, could have been done better but complimentary for being made by a child. I smiled at him and he reciprocated with a wider smile.

"It's beautiful Autumn just like you. Why don't you put this on my head yourself?"

He blushed and interrogated "can I?"

I just bend my head towards him and he was quick to place the flower crown on my head. It has purple and white flowers in it and is supported by brown twigs.

"Thank you Autu—" I was cut off because a lady in her late thirties took Autumn from my arms.

"Ma, see I made that" Autumn said excited without sensing the change in the environment and mood.

"Shut up and don't go close to him" the lady that must be Autumn's mother ordered to him and the smile on the child's face was quick to fall. Everyone eyes were on us now.

Damon was standing slightly in front of me with his hand on his sword's grip, ready to fight.

She looked at me and bowed a little. I knew why she didn't want her child to be near me but it was senseless. And I also knew she was bowing to me just because she didn't want a death sentence or to be sent to jail in punishment of disrespecting the royal family member or to be specific the prince.

But her resentment towards me was clear on her face as clear as crystal.

"I apologize for my disrespect your Highness but I don't want my son to catch the disease" she all but hissed at me.

I nodded "I understand."

People around me stunned and looked at me in shock, some in adoration and some in hate. But my nature was always being tolerant and forgiving. And I can't blame or punish people for their thinking that they have been passed from ages to them.

But most of them were changing their thoughts.

"But young lady, if liking men is a disease then I have to sadly inform you, many in our kingdom are having that disease. And if you way knows already the kingdom law punishes those who discriminate against anyone on their sexual preference. And I may forgive you this time but next time you may not be so lucky" I announced.

People started bowing to me and a blush took place on my cheeks. I was not accustomed to these things.

Even Damon bowed to me and I don't like it. He is my equal but of course, that stubborn mull doesn't understand it.

"Please stand straight, this is not needed. And I am here for something else."

People started to stand straight and looked at me curiously. When I had everyone attention on me I started "As you know my brother is soon going to be the king and I am have personally come to invite all of you to your king ceremony. A King is nothing without his kingdom people and it will be our honour if you all joined him on a grand day. So, I Prince Elias Darwin invite all the kingdom people to the king crown ceremony. Hope you can all give your blessings and support to him."

A wave of cheering erupted among all the kingdom men.
