Amelia and Kayden Goose

Amelia was a goose like most other geese. She enjoyed playing volleyball, attacking humans, and talking to her best friend, Meira. Most of the time, she talked to Meira about Kayden.
Amelia had been in love with Kayden for four years. Kayden wasn't like the other geese. He had an odd sense of humour. He had a green head. This year, Amelia suspected that Kayden loved her. She did her research, and he was showing all the signs. He was bobbing his head at her, which according to Google, meant that he liked Amelia. Amelia wrote this information on a cue card and tucked the card under her wing, so she wouldn't forget it.

The next day at school, Amelia waddled up to Meira.

"Meira! Meira!," she said. "I need your opinion."

"On what?," Meira asked.

"Someone has been bobbing their head at me. I think they like me, and I don't know what to do!"

"Who is it?,' Meira demanded.

"I don't want to tell you because I don't know for certain!"

"It's Kayden."

"How did you know?"

"I've known you for 10 years. I can read your mind."

"Well, what should I do?"

"You should just ask him! You have nothing to lose. Soon you'll leave and never see him again."

But Meira knew that Amelia would never do that because although Amelia was a goose, she was a chicken. So she suggested a different strategy.

"You should just watch him more. Maybe you'll see him bob his head more and you can be more sure."

Amelia liked that idea.

Amelia stared at Kayden all day, every day. She saw him bob his head at her a lot.

Amelia was now more confident that Kayden liked her. So she asked Meira what they should do next.

"We should waddle past him, and you can loudly talk about how you are in love with him!"

"But his friends might hear! That would be kind of embarrassing!"

"Who cares if you lose your dignity? You're not going to see any of these geese again once the year is over!"

Amelia did have a point. Kayden, like most geese, was always with his flock of friends. He was almost never alone.

But Meira's point was better.

Amelia was going to move next year, so she could do whatever she wanted without caring what people thought about her. So Amelia agreed.
Meira and Amelia walked past Kayden's flock of friends.

"Why is he so attractive?," Amelia asked.

None of Kayden's friends reacted.

"Why are they all so deaf?," Meira demanded, after they were out of the boys' earshot.

"Maybe they heard and just didn't react," Amelia suggested.

"I doubt it. If you hear someone say one of your friends is attractive, you turn around to make sure you heard them right," Meira said.

So Amelia and Meira walked past the boys again.

"Smash or Pass: Kayden," Meira asked Amelia.

"SMASH!," Amelia yelled,

"Oh, you're playing Smash or Pass," one of Kayden's friends said.
None of Kayden's other friends seemed to hear or care. Frustrated, Amelia and Meira decided to come up with another plan.

"You only have one more month with him. You need to be direct with him. Ask him if he likes you," Meira suggested.

"Fine! But, I'm really nervous. What if he rejects me and laughs at me?"

"Who cares! You literally only have to deal with him for a month."

So Amelia agreed.

Amelia and Meira planned how Amelia would confess. They decided she would text him, because she would be too chicken to do it face to face. She would keep it simple, and just say "I like you." They decided it would be best if Amelia told Kayden on a Friday, so Kayden would have a whole weekend to think about it.
Finally, Friday came. Amelia came close to chickening out so many times. Eventually, she sent it. It took five hours for Kayden to respond. He said:

"Thanks, that's really nice." Then he changed the subject.

Amelia panicked. She didn't know if that meant: "Thanks, I like you too," or  "Thanks, I like you as a friend," or "Thanks, I'm trying to reject you in a nice way."

So after overthinking the text wirth Meira, she answered him with:

"I don't know if you didn't understand or if you're trying to reject me in a nice way."

He answered: "I understand."

The problem was, Meira and Amelia didn't understand. Did he like Amelia or not?

Amelia and Meira did some calculations based on Kayden's past relationships, and decided that Kayden would admit that he is in love with Amelia in a week.

Kayden avoided Amelia for a week.

Amelia and Meira redid the calculations and decided that Kayden would admit that he is in love with Amelia in a week after that.

Kayden kept avoiding Amelia.

Kayden avoided Amelia for the rest of the month.

Amelia never found out if Kayden liked her.

Epilogue

Twenty years later, Amelia and Meira were still best friends. So when Meira heard that Kayden was getting married, she told Amelia right away. Amelia went to the mall to pick out an outfit to wear to the ceremony.

Amelia arrived at the venue right as the wedding officiant asked for objections. She burst through the door and yelled "Kayden, I love you! I object!" Objections happen at geese weddings more than you would think, so Kayden's bride was quite calm.

"Kayden? Do you know her?"

Kayden thought about it for a moment. "No, I don't know her."

"How could you! I love you!," Amelia was furious with Kayden for forgetting her.

The wedding ceremony continued, as security dragged Amelia away. Amelia was screaming and swearing at Kayden. As soon as Amelia was put down, she called her friend, Eva. Eva occasionally murdered and kidnapped geese for a fee. Long story short, Kayden's bride was widowed very quickly. She didn't seem too upset about it. She didn't stay widowed for long. Amelia and Kayden's widow wed in a beautiful ceremony three weeks later. They lived happily ever after.
