VALERIE WHITE was no friend to normalcy. She was considered a freak in her hometown of Hawkins, Indiana, and she was happy with such a title. It meant she bothered enough people to be given such a denomination. Val was fine being a freak, thank you very much.
EDDIE MUNSON beat her, though. For title of Hawkins High's Biggest Freak, the mullet-bearing guitarist came in first place, leaving the eyeliner-obsessed brunette in the dust. Leader of a campaign of the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and completely unashamed of his loud mouth, Eddie beat Val's oddness by a landslide. And besides—he'd been at it much longer than she had. With so much experience, it was no surprise he was so good at his job.
WHEN VAL'S POT SUPPLY RUNS LOW, there's now only one person to go to, even though it completely topples her ego and shatters her self-esteem to do so. But weed takes priority in her life, and for the first time in God knows how long, Val finds herself setting her pride aside to set up a deal with the only person in the entire town who's more of a freak than she is.
FRIDAY NIGHT, AFTER THE GAME. It took them a while to decide since Val's such an arguer and can't let anyone else be right, but finally they settled on a date for the exchange. Eddie said he had another customer that night, too, so Val would need to make it quick, but she didn't need him to tell her that. She had absolutely no intentions of lingering once she got her deal. The longer she spent at Eddie's trailer, the closer she would be to following in her mother's footsteps and slitting her wrists. Val just wanted to get her weed, and get the hell out of there.
BUT THEN CHRISSY CUNNINGHAM SHOWED UP, and it all went to shit.
