♥"Are you... okay?" ♥

I turned to look at where the unfamiliar voice came from, and met eyes with a complete stranger, one that was clearly much younger than me. The stranger had short, curled, split-dyed hair - half a faded red, and the other half black - and the brightest blue eyes I'd ever seen. They were wearing a long, black dress with a pink skull on the top half, and some gorgeous black heels.
Honestly, I was very confused on why they were wearing this by a lake... in the middle of a forest.

They smiled brightly and took note of the confusion on my face,
"Ah shit, sorry! I'm Zen, maybe I should've started with that." they laughed, before repeating their earlier question.
"So... are you okay? You look a bit... down right now."

"I'll... get there," I responded, giving them a small smile, "Just some... family issues? I suppose."

"Oh god! Well, if yah wanna talk about it I got time! I mean, no where else to be!" they stated enthusiastically, causing me to crack a smile.
Suddenly we hear a deep, tired voice speak from behind us and I sigh. Shota's voice.

"Y/n is fine, Zenaphi." Shota sighed, glaring at Zen.
"Oooo~ Hi Aizawa Sensei! You must be the family issue~" Zen giggled, sticking their tongue out at Aizawa.

I stared at the two in utter confusion, "You two... know each other?" I ask quizzically. Though they clearly didn't have the most friendly relationship.
Shota grumbled. "Yes, Zenaphi here is my former student. And one of my most troubled. They graduated last year-"

Zen cuts in, "Top of my year!!!!" they cheered, "Aizawa Sensei is just salty because he was a bad teacher."
"You burned my favourite sleeping bag you little-"
"YOU were sleeping instead of teaching! Ay... I hope you're teaching my little cousin properly." they sigh, pointing at him. "I mean it, if Mina fails I'm coming after you, freaking hobo!"

"Yes, yes, okay. Can you leave now? I need to have a... chat with Y/n." he sighs, gesturing for Zen to disperse with his hands.
Zen scowls at the man and pokes him in the chest, "You better be apologising to her if you made her cry... Or else... Mina's getting all the juicy blackmail from when you taught my class!"

You could practically see Shota stiffen as they said that, damn I need to get some tips from them...
He opens his mouth to retort back to Zen, but they turn away and face me once again - giving me a large smile as they pass me a piece of paper with their number on it.
"Give me a call if you need anything! I'll be sure to come running if he upsets you again~" they grin before running in the opposite direction they appeared from.

A few minutes of silence passed after Zen disappeared, before Shota finally sits beside me. I stare at the lake and try to ignore he was there, but I couldn't due to my nerves. Then, he finally speaks up.
"So... you still have a thing for forests then..."

"Shut it. That's the first thing you say? Maybe start with a sorry, Aizawa." I frowned, preparing to leave and head back home to my son. However, as I stand up and prepare to go, I'm pulled into a hug by a warm pair of hands. The hands I hadn't felt for years.
"You're right," he mumbled, tightening his arms slightly, "I'm sorry, Y/n. Seriously. It's just... I was angry."

I try and push myself away from him, but this was to no avail as he just pulls me closer.
"Woah woah, before you run off... Let me finish?" he mumbles, he never was good with emotions. "I wasn't angry with you. I was angry with myself. Angry that I wasn't here. Angry I missed everything... Because, I did... I missed everything."

"Actually, I'm really fucking pissed at your dad too. He never did approve of us..." he growled, practically gritting his teeth together. "In a way, he's the reason I missed my son's entire life. You... It wasn't your fault.
Yes, I'm upset you didn't come and tell me when you got here years ago... But Kayama's right - you were probably terrified of my reaction. Terrified of rejection. I mean... you went so long being a single mother and caring for Shin- Hitoshi with no help."

He finally decided it was okay to release me from his grip, assured that I wouldn't run off. And he thought right... I couldn't run off. I didn't.
I stared straight into Shota's eyes, "I'm... really sorry. I'm sorry for not telling you the moment I came back. You're right, I was scared - but it was horrible of me to keep you away from your son." I cried lightly, sitting back down where I was sat originally. Shota took his place next to me, his hand rubbing circles on my knee in a soothing manner.

"God damnit Sho... I kept making excuses to not see you. I kept letting my damn fears get in the way. I let my son grow up without his father, when you both did nothing to deserve that.
You know... when Toshi was younger he used to ask me where his dad was... where you were... and I always came up with the most bizarre stories as to why you weren't there.

For the first 6 years of his life... he thought you were an undercover spy on a super awesome mission. Hell... he even started playing imaginary spy games with the other primary school kids. Soon enough he stopped believing all the make-believe stories though, especially after he developed his quirk. He started to think it was his fault, he started trying to look after me and protect me - but that was meant to be my job." I smiled slightly as the tears rolled down my cheeks.

"He's been through a lot..." Shota stated, running a hand through his hair. "However... he's not alone. He never was alone, because he always had you. You looked after him, and he looked after you...
You've done... amazing to get this far. Hell, I wouldn't have been able to do it alone if it was me..." He gave me a small smile, causing me to sob more.

"You're not alone anymore Y/n, I'm here now. I'm here for you... and for our not-so-little boy."
