5. Breaking news

We all stared at him tensely waiting for some sort of bad news.

Suddenly Dad burst out laughing.

"Oh my god! You guys should've seen your faces," he said trying to catch his breath, mum glared at him whilst lightly punching his chest.
"That wasn't funny Adam!" Mum said although she had a small smirk curling at her lips.
"Dad that was so not cool!" Alex whined.
"So what did you really have to tell us?" Trenton asked with a raised eye brow.
"Well there was a matter I wanted to discuss with you, the annual ball is coming up and it's our honour to be hosting it at our home this year." Dad proudly stated with a twinkle in his eye.
"That's cool this will be the first time we're going plus we can't bail this time because it's at our home," Landon mused.
"Yes that's correct, none of you will make any sort of excuse to try and get out of this and I expect you all to be on your best behaviour." Dad spoke sternly, his gaze narrowed on the boys as they all nervously smiled at him.
"I'm sure they'll be fine Adam they're fine grown men." Mum spoke softly soothing the building up of tension in the room.
Dad let out a sigh, "I know, I know but I'll let you kids get
to it, the ball will be taking place in about a weeks time, no date has been confirmed as all the Kings are still trying to set an appropriate date." He spoke the cheerfulness returning to his voice. The boys visibly relaxed as they all stood from their seats.

"If that's all Dad then we shall get going, we have matters to attend to." Trenton said glancing at his watch. I glanced at him with my eyebrows furrowed, why is he being so formal? Something is definitely wrong I thought as an uneasiness spread throughout me.

"Yes son, that is all. I'll be seeing you three for lunch." Dad spoke with finality as he gave a dismissive nod and in turn all three boys turned to the door in synch as they took long strides out of Pappa's office. As I unconsciously took a step towards the door, Dad's words halted me.
"Not you Fuzzybottom, we need to talk to you sweetie." Dad said softly. I turned around as Mum and dad led me to the couch at the side of the room.
I sat in the middle of the two with Dad's arm around my shoulders and mum holding onto my hands.
"Now Sweetie we just wanted to ease some of those nerves, we know you'll be anxious about the ball, this is the first time you're going and I know it's not easy being the only Princess in all five kingdoms but your our blessing, our little bundle of joy and all we want to do is wrap you up and keep you away from the cruelties of the world because we want to protect you, keep you from harms way but we can't." Mum began choking on her words.
"Your Mother's right Nicky, we can't wrap you in cotton wool and keep you locked up forever, that's not fair on you but if your worried about all the people that will be present then don't because we won't let any harm come towards you. Nobody will even think about harming my little girl, so rest assured we'll be right there with you during the whole thing." Dad assured with a determined expression, giving me a warm smile and one of his bear hugs, I rested my head in the crook of this neck and that's where I truly felt at home, in the embrace of my family.
"Daddy I'm going to be just fine. I'll admit I was nervous at first but then I realised I had nothing to be scared of, I have three protective brothers, three protective best friends and the most adorable parents in the world, so I know I'll get through this." I said inhaling his cinnamon and spice scent, the cologne made me smile as it was the one that he had used for as long as I remember. I detangled myself from the Dad's loving embrace as I turned towards my Mum, I took her hands in min and she smiled softly down at me.
"Mama I love you so much, and I know you just want to protect me and keep me safe and there's no doubt in my mind that you'll carry on being amazing parents." I say pulling her into a hug. She stokes my hair and rubs soothing circles on my back. Dad joins in on the hug as his large arms were long enough to encircle me and Mum.
"My girls," Dad says softly kissing the back of my head. "I love you both so much." I say closing my eyes in tranquility.
"I wish we could capture this moment forever," mum says.
We untangle ourselves from each other.
"Oh wow! Look at the time, it's almost lunch time, God time flies." Dad says. I abrupt while stand up.
"Oh god, I must go, I have to check on Jace before I can join you guys for lunch and also..." I say turning towards them, "I have some news I'd like to share with you guys!" I say excitedly
