Diana couldn't help but steal glances at you as you secure your luggage to her broom.
Your informal yet polite way of speaking was refreshing. It was not forced and no pretense. It's been quite some time now since someone, anyone, has spoken to her so freely. It was nice to get reminded that she was also a person.
Although you have just met. She felt calm and warm. Maybe it has something to do with your common backgrounds of noble witches, she isn't quite sure. But what she is sure of is that she feels seen and content around you. A feeling that is new and alien but welcomed nonetheless.
Diana feels strong arms wrap around her torso.
She stiffens a bit.
"Sorry." She was met with your apologetic -yet charming- smile and nods.
You were also a couple of inches taller than her. Enough to notice but not enough to strain her neck.
Diana faces forward, "It's alright." before chanting her flight spell.
A couple of minutes later, you seem to be more comfortable.
She feels the hold around her loosen a bit before hearing a small tune.
You were humming.
A peaceful and gentle song with no words and no words were needed. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so much at peace and mixed with the waves of color of the Ley Line, Diana would have gladly sunken into the rhythm. No worries nor responsibilities. Just you, her, and the beauty of the world.
"Hey, could you tell me how the grouping system works?" You ask, "I've read about the school but the website I was on only mentioned it without explaining anything."
Diana hummed, "Well, if the rumors bare any fruit, then you should be a first-year, correct?" She felt you nod and smile, "So as I. So for starters, we don't need to worry about grouping till next year. They'll put us in teams of 3 in our second year, and you'll be stuck with the same people till the end. It's a first come first serve policy, so if you have any close friends you're willing to spend 3 years with, you can make a request to the headmistress or one of the older professors."
You nod in understanding, "Is there anyone you want to be in a group with? Or do you not care?"
She gave you a side glance before shrugging, "I can not say for the future but for now I could only hope to befriend someone that I share a common ground with, preferably someone who'll help me grow and learn more with them."
"So basically friendly rivalry?" You tilt your head.
"In a way, yes." Internally, she's hoping that you will be that person, despite just meeting you.
You smile, "Well, I hope you leave that position open cuz I might just apply after I catch up with everyone else."
Diana mirrored your smile, "I'll be rooting for you then."
It was an eventful day for Diana today.
A great day in fact.
It may didn't start off as such with a morning shared with her aunt and her twin cousins. But just like some blessing from the nines, she met you.
Similar backgrounds, common interests, easy on the eyes, and a wonderful personality to boot. You were perfect.
An ideal companion and/or a friend for anyone.
She has truly found a wonderful friend. On the first day of school no less!
This must be some sort of blessing.
Taking out one of her blends, Diana brought out a tea set.
She placed them on the small table before pouring you and herself a cup. Sitting down on the couch herself, she looked at you. Half-heartedly folding your clothes and putting your belongings in the closet.
How fortunate was she to end up sharing a room with you this school year. This will surely help her form a deeper bond with you.
"You should take a break. I've made us some tea." Diana patted the space next to her.
You let out a sigh before nodding.
She watches you sit down before passing you the cup. "Apologies, I do not know how you like them, but there are some milk and sugar on the side." she pointed out.
"No worries," you got a whiff of the tea, "It smells nice. What blend is it?"
"This particular blend is a combination of tiger eye, white blueberry, and white eternal spring. All the necessary ingredients were grown and prepared at my family's estate." Diana proudly sips at her tea.
"So the highest quality, I feel honored." You let out a small laugh.
"As you should." She jokes back.
The two of you share a laugh before falling into a peaceful silence.
Your tranquility was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Sighing, you put your cup on the table before heading to check who's at the door.
Diana watched you open the door. Ignoring whoever interrupted the two of you, she irritably continued to sip at her tea.
She doesn't understand why but she felt annoyed when your moment was so rudely and so suddenly interrupted. She never felt like this before, so why?
Has she already gotten so attached in no less than a day?
"Thank you very much, have a great day."
Getting rid of her previous thoughts, Diana turned to face you, "Who was at the door?"
"A fairy, one of the school staff. He brought me a broom for tomorrow's flight class." You prop it against the wall next to Diana's.
She let out a hum, "Well if you wish, I won't be against the idea of helping you with classes."
You shook your head, "It's ok, you have your own classes to study for. Besides, isn't that the teacher's job to help out troubled students?"
You laugh as she let out a huff. "And what will you do when you need extra help?"
"Probably beg, so-" You smile. "if you ever see a blob of tears and panic, you'll know who it is."
She rolls her eyes and scoffs, "You're ridiculous."
Though there was still a rather prominent smile on her face as she said that.
