Hey, Everyone!
First of all, thank you so much for reading! I appreciate anyone who takes time out of their day to read a bit of my writing, and because of that, the following are some fun facts about the story. Enjoy! :)
1. The idea for the story came from a boss I had at one point, who'd come into work ranting and raving about the rambunctious kids who lived on her floor (the fifth) in her apartment building, constantly running around in the middle of the night. She always tried to come up with ways to get the kids in trouble, but their parents never cared. I decided to write a story from the perspective of the "obnoxious little punks", mostly in spite of the woman. Thus, Saving Grace was born.
2. The original title was, Tales from the Fifth Floor.
3. Clara Storm was my great-grandmother's name. My dad wasn't really thrilled when he found out I'd named an antagonistic character after her.
4. Gracie's original name was, Constance.
5. Sybil Jackson is a character based off a close friend of mine. I cried a little when I killed her off. I'm not even kidding. She always brings it up at the most awkward times too. "You killed me! Bitch!" All I can do is shrug, especially in public. I mean, how do you really explain that one to passersby?
6. The Gould family was supposed to have a bigger role in the story, but it became too convoluted, so I took out a lot of their part.
7. Henry was one of my favorite characters to write.
8. Colleen Tate was going to have a way more integral role in the story, but after much deliberation I decided her role wasn't as important as many of the other characters. I do love her though. ;)
9. Quinn McQueen is probably one of my favorite characters. How could you not like him? He's such a sweetheart.
10. That scene in the beginning of the epilogue is a scene from my real life verbatim. My mom took my youngest brother, my baby cousin, and I to Target one day... and now you all know how I shop. True story.
11. Preston and Charlie have the same birthday, February 14th.
12. Charlie wasn't supposed to get hurt in the Underground Riot, Pi was. But when I was writing, it was one of those magical times when the words just flowed. It made me pretty sad, though.
13. Trent's death was originally way more detailed and brutal. But I grossed myself out, so I erased it.
14. I set the story in 1992 purely so there could be a sequel and I didn't have to think too much about creating a future. Hahahaha. So... laziness mostly. :)
15. The Gould Rubber Factory is based on an old abandoned rubber plant that I got arrested in with my best friend when we were thirteen. We were stupid (it was my fault, I dragged her into it) and decided to go in right after some kid died trying to take pictures, so the cops were monitoring the crap out of it. They let us off with a warning. Hahahaha.
