Dragons can be intimidating if you know them as a real creature soaring in the shy and capable of flying over seven seas.

Kim Namjoon grew up in an isolated island off the main coast, far away from his people until he was able to control his inner self.

It could be devastating for the kingdom if their crowned prince turned out to be a creature their people feared.

You see, the great grandfather of Namjoon was also a shape-shifting dragon who made some odd choice during his reign and petrified his people for what seemed like an eternity.

The day Namjoon found out that he could shape-shift, he vowed to protect his people from everyone, including himself.

So he spent his teens locked in a dungeon that he helped create and spent his time singing, writing stories and dreaming about a day he can control his powers and go back to his people.

When Namjoon turned 20, the king decided to send him off to a far away land where he could learn how to control and polish his unique abilities.

Namjoon came back just before his 25th birthday to his people who barely knew his existence. It all seemed like a myth. A prince locked up in his own castle by his own father and a history of strange sightings from a sister nation not too far away.

But somehow, the kind hearted and artistic prince made his place in everyone hearts.

He would spend his days admiring all the creations of his people, from pottery to painting and from cooking to storytelling.

His nights would be spent in learning the art of warfare and preparing himself in every possible way to defend his land and his people.

You see, shape-shifting dragons don't sleep. They can nap mid flight or mid conversion but they never sleep for far too long. So Namjoon spends most days learning one new skill after another.

One day, the queen instructs the prince to go find a mate. For a boy who never knew anything other than art, artistry and the art of warfare, finding a mate was going to be a challenge like no other.

So he set out to meet prince and princesses from all across the mainland, both friendly neighbors and sisters nations. But none caught his attention or stirred his interest.

One day when Namjoon was about to shed his human attire and take flight in the middle of a thunderstorm, a beautiful voice called out for him.

The fog made it hard to recognize the face but Namjoon knew that voice. That soft beautiful voice. He had heard it once when he was visit a princess from far east.

"JIMIN!" he exclaimed with equal parts of joy and worry "What are you doing here in the middle of a thunderstorm?".

And Jimin, an honorable horseman and the soon to be military commander of his humble nation, skillfully tamed his stallion as he approached Namjoon.

"Your highness, I'm here to take you back to the palace. The princess awaits your return." Jimin said as he passed a coat to the prince.

What Namjoon didn't know was the fact that Jimin had seen Namjoon take flight hundred of times. He knew the exact routine.

A tossed coat followed by shedding every piece of clothing on his body before elegantly embracing his dragon form and soaring into the endless sky.

You see, Jimin was training to control his own powers. A merman who wishes to live on land can not be easy. He too trained to survive the dry harsh landscapes. His limber legs eventually learned not to turn back into fins and his graceful neck learned to keep the gills hidden from plain sight.

Namjoon and Jimin spend the rest of the night talking about everything and finally knowing each other.

"I can't marry her" said Namjoon and Jimin responded "You must, for the good of your people, choose someone to be by your side as you rule this realm.".

"Then marry me" said Namjoon, right as the sun emerged and rays of light hit the glistening skin of Jimin's beautiful and enchanting face.

Jimin chuckled as he got up and walked to his horse before leaping up and signaling Namjoon to follow. And Namjoon followed on his stallion as they navigated the steap rise and steady falls along the curves of the mountain before reaching the palace.

The king had raised Jimin as his own and was thrilled to hear the proposition made by the crowned prince. Surely and soon enough, the two rode back to Namjoon's nation where his parents eagerly waited to witness the future companion of their future king.

The celebrations ran long that night. Jimin was lovable and everyone welcomed him with open arms. The king was hesitant at first but was eventually convinced.

Their union brought peace on both land and the seven seas. Namjoon spent a thousand years ruling their realm and Jimin, his companion in both heart and in the hear of war, never failed to protect the King.

The two eventually showed their true form to their people and with a little time and a lot of efforts, everyone learned to coexist.

Even today, thousands of years after their legacy has been slowly forgotten and their legends labeled as myths, some people still witness a mythical creature soaring above seven seas and a magical being swimming every ocean just to reunite once every year under the stary night sky.

The dragon that dives into the waters and emerges with the merman he fell in love with. The two walk on the path created by stars and gallop across the galaxy before they return to their own magical realm.

And just before dawn, the merman returns to his waters and the dragon soars into the skies before they both vanish for another year.

They will always protect their realms and find their way back to each other.
