3RD PERSON POV:

One second, Melly was warm and the next, she was cold.

"... go get help. Don't go anywhere."

El's voice was faint, but there.

She laid there for a few more minutes before she could gather the courage to open her eyes.

She expected it to be really bright, but it was surprisingly dark.

Small particles were floating around, making it look like it was snowing inside.

Mel slowly sat up, her head throbbing and her muscles feeling weak. She was tired but knew that if she continued to lay down, even for a minute, she would pass out again.

She saw a very faint light in the distance. It was slowly getting fainter and Mel knew she was losing her chance to escape.

She got up and clung to the wall. Her energy was dangerously low but she continued to make her way to the light as fast as she could.

She turned a few corners and saw a gate that was slowly closing.

She stumbled toward it and used her telekinesis to open it. It took a second to start working but it eventually worked.

She pushed through the thin layer of goop and crawled through the small portal, which immediately started closing after she was through.

She started thinking of where she should go. She knew she needed to go tell Steve that she's still alive but she knew she couldn't stay at home because it would be too dangerous.

She thought of the fastest route back to her house by foot and started her trek.

-

The journey took her almost two hours because of her lack of energy.

Luckily, there was only one police car outside of the house and it only took 15 minutes for the officers to leave.

Mel snuck around the back of the house to not draw attention. Steve always left it unlocked just in case. The two siblings were the only ones who knew about this.

She pushed the sliding door open slowly and saw Steve sitting at the kitchen island, his back facing her.

"Steve!" she whisper-shouted.

He didn't turn around and she thought he didn't hear her, so she said his name again.

"Steve!" she said a little louder.

Still nothing.

"Steve..." she started walking closer to him when she noticed something was off.

He was sitting there with a drink in his hand, staring off into space. There were five other empty cans sitting off to the side of him and he had dried tears on his cheek.

"Steve!" she was tapping his shoulder aggressively, until he finally realized that she was actually standing there.

"... Mel? You're actually here?"

"Yes? Why wouldn't I be?"

"The police told me you died! God, I missed you so much!" He ran to her and clung to her like she was going to disappear.

"Steve, you're drunk!"

"I thought you were dead."

"It doesn't matter! You promised me. You should uphold that promise, even if I die! Especially if I die."

"I'm so glad you're okay."

"Me too. But, I can't stay. It's too dangerous."

"What? No! I'll protect you-"

"Steve-"

"-no one will hurt you-"

"Steve! I have to go. I'm leaving in the morning."

"Where are you going to go?"

"My biological mom's house."

"What?"

"No one filled you in?"

"No? What are you talking about?"

"Well, when mom was pregnant," she started her long explanation, "she drank and smoked and created a really unhealthy environment in her body, so she had a third-trimester miscarriage. She was so upset with herself and she didn't want people to look down on her for causing the death of her child, so she paid a man to get her another child. That's me. My biological mother had been in these 'Hippie' trials and she was hopped up on all these drugs. That's where she met the man that gave me to our parents. When she found out she was pregnant with twins, she dropped out of the trial and moved in with her sister. When she had me and my sister, everything was good for a while. Until, one day, these men broke into our house and took me and my sister. We got separated. She was taken to a lab to be experimented on and I was taken and brought to the hospital. At this point I was already three so I don't know how our parents pulled off having a 'newborn' that was three years old."

"Wait, what?"

"Yeah, pretty crazy, right? Well, last week, I snuck out with my friends to look for Will and we found a girl in the woods. Turns out, it's my twin sister."

"Why did the men kidnap you from your mom in the first place?"

"Well, it so happens that I have magical powers! When my mom was given these drugs something happened to us and we both developed powers."

Steve looked dumbfounded for a moment before he broke out in maniacal laughter.

"What?"

"You seriously think I believe you?"

"I'm telling the truth!"

"Prove it!"

She closed her eyes and focused on the beer can in Steve's hand. In seconds, it started floating out of his hand and was thrown across the room.

"What. The. Hell."

"I also have pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, and telepathy."

"What does any of that mean?"

"Basically I can control fire, ice and I can communicate through my mind."

It was silent for a few minutes and Mel just let Steve process the information.

"Well, I've had a pretty long night so I'm going to bed. Goodnight, Steve. I'm leaving pretty early in the morning so if you want to say bye you better wake up early."

"I love you so much, Melly."

"Love you too, Stevie."

-

Steve didn't end up sleeping. He didn't know when Mel was leaving and he was scared she was going to leave without saying goodbye.

It was a good thing he waited because she ended up leaving at 5:00 am.

"Steve? Did you sleep?" she asked as she walked downstairs carrying a bag.

"No, I was scared you would leave without me."

"Without you? Steve, I can't take you with me. It's too dangerous."

"I'm bringing you to your new house. You can't just walk there!"

"I can't risk anyone knowing where I am! Not even you, Steve. I'm sorry, but you aren't going."

"This is bullshit! I just want to protect you."

"I know," Mel sat next to him on the couch, "I want you too also, but it isn't possible. I don't want to risk being found, or the lives of my mom and aunt. I'm so sorry, Steve. I love you so much."

By this point, Mel and Steve were hugging each other and crying.

"Okay, Steve, I have to go."

"Okay. I love you so much, Melissa." Steve was sobbing. He was about to lose his little sister.

"See you, Stevie."

Mel got up from the couch, grabbed her bag, and left, never looking back.
