Re-cap:

“Kyle?” I whispered.

He looked down at me, curled up against his chest.

“Yes?” he mumbled.

“Where exactly are we going to go? We have nowhere to go…”

he held my gaze for a few seconds before looking away.

“We’re going to climb down the thick vines from the floating city to the original land, the land below us...”

I gasped. “We’re going to the land below?”

he didn’t answer me for a long time but the answer he gave me was the most frightening and scary answer I had ever received in my life.

“Yes, we’re going back down to Earth.”

As I was still trying to recover from what Kyle had said to me Jamie rushed in, breathless.

“Guys we have to get moving, now!” He whispered whilst handing us each a backpack each.

He hauled me to my feet and I just stood there, stunned.

“What about mum and dad!?” I whispered back. “Where are they? Why aren’t they here?”

he turned to me with a sad expression on his face.

“Elena they’re about to give themselves over as a distraction for us and if we don’t move now then it’ll all have been for nothing. So we have to go like…NOW!”

He rushed us through the back door and I glanced over my shoulder, taking a last look at the place I had called home. We made our way to the vines and prepared to climb down them. Ever since I can remember my parents had told me to never go to the world below. For all 16 years of my life I had been told stories of the land below. I guess today I would be finding out what it was really like and to say I was petrified of finding out was an understatement.Jamie was the first one to make his way down the vine followed by me and then Kyle.

We we’re almost there when I heard Jamie let out a gasp. Kyle and I both looked about and were horrified at what we saw. One of the creatures was climbing down the vine after us. I slid further and further down the vine, using my arms to go faster. I glanced up and he was getting closer, my breath was coming out in short gasps. We weren’t going to make it. My mother and father had given themselves up for nothing.  We were all out of breath and exhausted as the creature made its way closer and closer towards us.

I swung my backpack off of my back and rummaged through it, desperate to find anything to help us. I jerked me hand out when it was sliced by a bladed. I suddenly had an idea. I pulled out the blade.

“What are you doing!?” Jamie screamed up at me.

I looked down at him.

“saving us” I said softly before cutting the vine.
