Hana's POV
"Won't you have us play with you, Miyagi?", the long-haired guy said with an arrogant smirk.
I looked behind him and saw that there was someone who didn't seem to be a student of our school. It was a slightly tanned and fairly muscular guy wearing a maroon tank top and jeans. He even had a lit cigarette stick just resting comfortably in his mouth. I heard one of the delinquents calling him Tetsuo-san.
Everyone was being cautious and wasn't making any unwanted movements.
"He's Mitsui-san.", I heard Kakuta-san said.
"The one who had a terrible fight with Miyagi-san?", Sasaoka-kun asked in response to which he earned a nod of agreement in return.
A fight?
The silence was interrupted when the tanned guy dropped the ashes of his cigarette on the floor making my brother shout in anger. Miyagi-san was quick to stop him from going on any further by putting an arm in front.
"It's interesting to find a clown in the basketball club.", the guy said with a proud smirk.
He think he's funny?
Funny?
Oh I'll show him fun-
Before I could realize it, my feet started moving towards the guy but someone placed their hand on my shoulder, making me stop.
"Idiot. Just stay put."
I knew that voice anywhere and I wouldn't dare turn as by the sound of it, he was leaning close to my ear. If I were to turn, my face would surely be close to his. Blushing in embarrassment wouldn't suit this situation, would it?
"We're training. The other members are here too.", Miyagi-san tried negotiating, "Won't you get out of here Mitsui-san, please?"
"Other team members? You don't mind getting beaten up as long as your team members won't get involved?", one of the delinquents mockingly asked.
"Don't beat me up again. I can't afford to be hospitalized again right now.", Miyagi-san solemnly said with his head down, "Would you please take them to leave with you, Mitsui-san? This place is very important to us."
With Miyagi-san's words, I couldn't help but feel sad and scared. He was willing to plead in order for the basketball team to not get involved in their fight.
It showed how much basketball means to him.
How much his teammates means to him.
Everyone else on our side remained completely still and quiet. We were all in awe of Miyagi-san and yet still being careful not to do anything as it could instigate an unwanted fight.
These assholes..
The one they called "Mitsui" scoffed in response as the tanned guy proceeded to press his lit cigarette on the ball the former was holding in his hands.
"Are you an idiot? I'm here to cause havoc."
Havoc, really?
What, is he some third-rate gangster wannabe in a poorly made film?
"What do you want?!", Michi couldn't help but raise his voice again on our behalf as they clearly didn't hold any respect for us. They were treating the precious things of the team as if they're trash.
I saw how hard Michi worked to properly clean those balls, to shine the floors.. and yet they had the nerve to do that!
I could feel my arm shaking in anger but feeling Rukawa-san's assuring hand lightly squeeze my shoulder, I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. As I did, Rukawa-san took a step and stood in front of me, completely hiding me behind him.
He swung an arm back and in his hand, there was a ball I didn't know he had. With enough force to make an impact, he threw the ball and it hit Hotta-senpai's face.
Everyone was surprised and looked in the direction where the ball came from. Rukawa-san looked at them smugly while massaging his wrist, as if confirming that it was him who threw it.
"Your friends don't look as much of a loser unlike you, Miyagi."
Miyagi-san kept his head down, not wanting to fight back. But Mitsui didn't care as he kicked the ball he had in hand towards Miyagi-san's stomach. Michi raised his fist but the crouching Miyagi-san held him back still.
Mitsui then turned his gaze towards Rukawa-san and gestured a buddy of his, Ryu, to take on the ravenette.
Worried, my hand unconsciously went towards the back of Rukawa-san's shirt and crumbled it. Sensing my fear, he turned around and gave me a small smile before urging me to go and join Ayako-san on the side. I was reluctant to go as I looked into his eyes, doing my best to convince him not to go fight.
Of course he doesn't listen.
As Rukawa-san got closer towards the group, I scanned the room in search of something that might help. As my eyes caught the door of the storage room, I walked to it as silently as I could.
Looking inside, I saw a mop beside the door. I hurriedly took it and turned around to go back. But as I did, Tetsuo was suddenly in front of me.
Oh no... he must have seen me come here and followed.
He looked at me and then at the mop that was in my hands. His grubby hands attempted to take the mop from me but I held onto it tightly. Annoyed, Tetsuo grabbed my hair and used it to pull me along with him.
Due to the pain I felt from my hair being pulled with excessive force, I accidentally let go of the mop. As the sound made by the mop when it hit the floor reverberated in the gymnasium, the attention of the people was now on us.
"Hana!", Michi shouted but when he turned to run towards me, Mitsui suddenly made a move to hit Miyagi-san on the mouth using his head as the tanned guy simultaneously dragged me harder by the hair, making me tumble and fall.
"Don't, Hanamichi."
Frustration can be seen on my brother's face as he didn't know what to do. If he so much as move an inch, Mitsui wouldn't stop hitting Miyagi-san and the tanned guy continued to drag me across the floor.
"You don't want the team to be banned from joining this year's competition, do you? If news came out that Shohoku's team got involved in a fight, you all will be banned!", Mitsui said as he had a crazed look in his eyes, "Or worse, you might get disbanded."
My eyes were closed as tears started falling. I was so scared but I didn't dare to make a sound and fuss around because I knew it wouldn't help the team resolve this problem at all if they would also think of me.
I felt the guy let go of me and pushed me further into the floor. He then bent down to get the mop I dropped earlier and give it to Mitsui. The former told him that he could use it to hit Miyagi-san as the latter complained about his hand hurting.
Ayako-san hurried to me and helped me sit up. She looked at my arm and shook her head as she saw a large bruise forming. I looked at it and bit my lip as Ayako-san brushed her fingers over it.
What can I say, I bruise easily.
Damn it.
Michi's eyes followed Ayako-san as she ran up to me and his eyes widened upon seeing my bruised arm. Rukawa-san couldn't help but do the same as he seemed intrigued by my brother's reaction.
Seeing the large bruise forming on my left arm, Rukawa-san harshly turned his head towards Tetsuo and ran.
Towards him.
