BERKLEY LET HER HAND HANG OUT THE WINDOW OF her light blue convertible Volkswagen Beatle, as she sat at a red light; the absence of the car's roof allowing for her ponytail to wave in the wind, like it was saying hello to all the cars it passed.
Berkley didn't usually consider herself to be a reckless driver, (though Bradley would probably disagree) an occasionally clueless one maybe; but she was usually one to abide by stop signs (when she noticed them that is) and the speed limit. Right now however she'd skipped two stop signs in the last twenty minutes, and was at least ten miles per hour above the speed limit, and should there be a cop nearby she would certainly be pulled over. The law was the last thing on her mind however, as she was far more focused on getting to the airport before Bradley's plane landed, and reuniting with her best friend.
Berkley also liked to think she was punctual, (once again, Bradley would probably disagree) but according to google maps, she was set to arrive at the airport ten minutes after Bradley's plane landed. She wasn't exactly sure how she lost track of time; or why two cars decided to get in an accident and create traffic, but she was treating google maps eta as a challenge, determined to beat it.
To her immense relief she pulled up to the airport five minutes before the plane landed, meaning if she sprints she can definitely make it in time to see him walking out of his gate. So that's exactly what she did, her aviators that were once on her head falling into her face, and her naval aviator jacket flying behind her as she ran into the airport.
She got there just as the clock hit 2:30, and when his plane was supposed to land; realizing only then that he still had to get off the plane and make his way to her, meaning she probably could have walked.
Berkley freed her hair from its ponytail, letting it fall past her shoulders, and pushed her aviators back on her head like a headband. She fiddled with a lose thread on the pocket of her jeans, trying to keep herself busy while waiting for Bradley.
She had just picked the lose thread from her pants, when she caught sight of a familiar face- Bradley walking to baggage claim, looking around for someone- her.
He looked good, like really really good. His deployment had treated him well, though she figured it would be hard to come back from spending six months under the Florida sun looking bad; not that he ever looked bad that is. Berkley had never thought that Bradley was ugly per say, no she knew he had to be attractive for half the girls in high school to be all over him. She just never fully saw it until now. His skin was tanned, the sunshine state having bathed him in a bronze glow, hazel eyes gleaming, God he looked good and Berkley couldn't help but wonder when he got that handsome, or if she'd just been blind this whole time.
She quickly snapped herself out of her haze, shaking her head as if to clear the thoughts of her suddenly hot best friend. "Bradley!" She called out, smiling at her clueless best friend who was still yet to spot her.
His head swiveled at the sound of her voice, his whole demeanor changing- relaxing at the sight of her, his eyes lighting up when he saw her.
Deployment had treated Berkley well, though he supposed it would be hard to come out of six months in Hawaii looking bad. Not that she could ever look bad that is. Her already blonde hair had lightened from all the time she must have spent under the Hawaiian sun, her skin was tanned, and her blue eyes as bright as ever.
The two best friends began walking towards each other, before Bradley broke out in a slow jog, meeting Berkley half way and scooping her up in a tight hug.
The scent of her strawberry shampoo and flowery perfume filled his senses, and he let himself drown in it for just a moment, before pulling away from their embrace to look at her.
"Hi" He said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Hi" Berkley grinned, pulling him back into her tight embrace.
She breathed in the smell of his woodsy cologne and the underlying scent of leather that lingered from all the time spent in the leather pilot seats of F18s.
"It's been too long." Bradley mumbled into her hair.
"Way too long" Berkley agreed.

"Berks' can you please skip this song" Bradley pleaded as the third One Direction song started to play through Berkley's Volkswagen.
"No shut up this is the last one I swear!" Berkley lied, swatting her best friends hand away from her phone.
"You said that last time, I'm taking control." Bradley said stealing the phone from her grasp, and switching to his own playlist.
The sound of My Girl by The Temptations filled the air, causing Berkley to frown at Bradley from behind her aviators.
Oblivious, or at least pretending to be Bradley sang along to the song, belting out the lyrics as they drove down the pch.
"What can make me feel this way?" He sang obnoxiously, holding his hand out like a microphone for Berkley to sing into.
"My girl, my girl, my girl!" He belted when she didn't sing, his boisterous behavior eventually causing her to crack, laughing and signing along.

"Home sweet home!" Berkley said smiling, as she turned off the ignition.
They'd finally arrived at Dawn's house where Berkley was staying, and Bradley would stay for the night before going to his own apartment; the light yellow home and it's blue door a welcome sight to them both.
The two hadn't even gotten out of the car yet when the front door opened, and a smiling Dawn appeared on the porch.
"If it isn't Bradley Bradshaw!" She said smiling stepping down the porch to the driveway.
"Hi Aunt Dawn,"Bradley said pulling his godmother in a warm hug, kissing her on the head.
"You get taller every time I see you." Dawn said, looking up at the boy who once only met her hip but now towered over her; causing the two pilots to laugh as they all made their way inside.
"So tell me, do you two have plans tonight?" Dawn asked as she grabbed three glasses from the cupboard.
"Phoenix and a few others are meeting up at the bar." Berkley said, looking at Bradley.
"You two should go! Don't let me hold you back." Dawn said smiling .
"Are you sure Aunt Dawn?" Bradley asked, leaning back in his chair.
"Yes! You're young, enjoy it." The older woman smiled, while pouring herself a glass of iced tea.
"Okay, okay! Love you mom!" Berkley said kissing her mom on the cheek and giving her a quick hug before following Bradley upstairs to change, blissfully unaware of what was to come.
