Bryant

Sleet fell from the blackened sky in torrents. The only light a pale-yellow street lamp up the block. Trash lined the abandoned streets adding to the forlorn appearance of a ghost town. Pulling his thin leather jacket just a little tighter as he got off the bus, Bryant hardly recognized his home town. Hughesburg, Kansas. He sighs and begins the long walk to his parent's house. This is a bad idea, he mumbles.

This will be the only time Bryant has come home since his parents went into hiding almost ten years ago, and he failed them. Ten years to get something right and he failed. So, it's now or never.

Looking inward, he feels it. The emptiness. They haven't found him yet. But they will... they always find their target. And knew things, things they wouldn't let him just walk away with the knowledge of. He's going to have to make this a quick visit. It has got to be that way. Something his sister won't be too happy about. But she already feels it, doesn't she? Yep, he smiles to himself, she's going to be really pissed.

Bethany

Sitting on the floor in her parents living room going through old photo albums, a silent tear rolls down her cheek. Then, ruining the moment, along with an entire photo album of her memories, the rain starts to seep through the ceiling. Running to the kitchen to get a pan Beth stops in her tracks and curses under her breath. It's begun, she can already feel him and it makes her mad...

She shakes her head to clear the haze and block out those stupid images.

She would never live that life. The life that stole away her childhood, made her family paranoid and edgy, took her brother away, and killed both her parents. No, she wouldn't live that way. Always on the run. And if she never used her abilities, they would never seek her out. She'd never be found.

She'd be safe.
