Chapter 22: Hunter's Quest

 As I set foot into the camp I saw Rose jotting something in her notebook, I snuck around her to find a sketching of Buzz then I actually began my hunt.

When I got to a certain area I saw strange fur and held it in the light to see it better. It was black but something was weird about its smell, a tranquilizing smell... "Eh, probably have nothing to worry- WHOA!" At that exact moment a black creature appeared, "What in the New World is that?" I thought that's when a soft female voice rang out, Nightshade Paolumu discovered, "Nightshade Paolumu?" I asked, "Ugh, I hate when people call me that." An annoyed female voice said, and I instantly knew what it was "Oh, uh sorry," I told it "But uh, what should I call you?" I asked, "Call me, Night." She said "Ok Night, do you know where I can find a Paolumu?" I asked her "Only one around here is my sister, why?" She told me "Er, I need some of its fur." I told her "Oh, ok I can get that besides my sis is shedding a lot of fur now, I wonder why?" She explained to me, "Um, I need to make some balloons for a friend." I told her, I mean it's basically the truth, right? "Want me to bring you to her?" Night asked me, "Er, no thanks I'll find a-" I stopped mid-sentence when a sharp came in my chest bringing me to a kneeling position with one of my hands on the area where my chest hurt and my hand was clenching it, "Are you ok!?" Night asked in a worried voice "Heart-can't-m-move." I said spacing the words out to save air "C'mon I'll get you to Ice." She told me before scooping me on her back and flying me to 'Ice'. It felt like an hour had passed before we got there and the pain in my chest hadn't gone away, which was strange because it should have now unless... but that's impossible, no way it could be here... Right?

As we approached the top of the Coral Highlands a slight chill could be felt "No way," Night mumbled but with the chill going through my spine, an Elder Dragon was here when we arrived at the top the pain was gone, and then I saw a majestic sight, a Velkahna and a Kirin two Elder Dragons which was a rare sight, also something I never wanted to see... the Apex Legiana "Hm, you again?" Legiana said with disgust in her voice "Ah, is this the human you spoke to us about Ice?" The Velkahna asked Ice "Yes my queen." Ice said "Night why did you bring him here?" Ice asked, "Oh, he has a pain in his chest, I was wondering if you could heal him?" Night explained "Yes... Under one favor, when that huge beast that I defeated a couple of decades ago re-emerges don't get in my way." Ice said to me "The Research Base? No it's not looking to seize your territory-" I explained "THEN WHAT IS IT DOING HERE!?" Ice yelled at me "They want to research this part of the New World." I explained "The New World... I like it, it has a nice ring to it, don't you think Lectro?" The Velkahna asked the Kirin "Yes my queen... Wait, how have we not ruled out the fact that this human 1. Can understand us, and 2. How is he not terrified? I mean he is literally being looked down on from four wyverns?" Lectro explained "Oh yeah... How?" The Velkahna asked "Sigh. 1. I have an ability to understand monsters because I have a gem in my glasses, and 2. Not that I remember but I feel like I've been in worse situations." I explained.

Just then Night appeared with a sack full of Paolumu fur, not sure where she got the sack from don't care. "What's up with the fur?" Lectro asked, "Oh, it's for my friend here." Night said pointing her right wing to me, "Thanks Night" I said to Night before patting her head it wasn't coated in fur like the rest of her body except for her leathery tail, "Well, nice talking to you guys." I said while walking back to the Research Base with the sack of fur.
