(Heather POV)
Standing there was Eddie Munson, face to face with Jason Carver, what a fucking psycho. I couldn't really tell what they were fighting over since I had conveniently placed my headphones over my ears during lunch today. My dad had gotten these headphones for my birthday on Monday this week, he pre-made me a mix-tape to play, which was titled latest hits, and it wasn't the generic shit you hear on the radio, like Whitney Houston or A-Ha, it was Metallica's Ride the Lightening to Journey's Escape album, which honestly I didn't mind, my dad and I shared the same music tastes. I had never been one to celebrate my birthday, especially as I have gotten older, was just never my thing.
This fight between Eddie and Jason particularly caught my interest, Eddie had never been the guy to get in people's faces like that. We went to a summer camp together when we were younger, but he has changed since then, definitely not a shaved head like he used to, and those tats... I never really noticed his tattoos. He seemed more than capable of showing Jason what a stick up his ass felt like, that is for sure. Jason and I have some secrets I'd rather not talk about.
Suddenly, Jason swings at Eddie, within the, what seemed to be 4 milliseconds before he crouched under the cheek clenching punch, was a smirk that lied over his face looking at me. My jaw dropped, I had never spoke to Eddie before but I think now was finally my shot, well after the fight of course.
Everybody was watching, he could have quite literally looked at anyone else in the room, but for that split second we made eye contact, I felt a bolt of electricity flow to my heart and weird sensation hit my stomach. I pulled down my headphones, stood up, and joined the crowd that circled the fight.
"You shouldn't have said that asswipe" In the intense stages of the battle Jason blurted out. The basketball team was rooting as the crowd was going wild.
While there might not have been much time between each punch Jason was throwing, Eddie ducked and dodged each punch with ease, as if he could manipulate time.
"Try me, tough guy." Eddie stood tall, Almost looming over Jason, Eddie reels his fist back and perfectly coordinates a punch straight to the temple of Jason, knocking him over instantly. Everyone was in shock. Eddie looked straight at me, we held eye contact for a bit longer this time, but I could tell he was basking in the glory of the moments before a teacher broke up the circle and sent Eddie down to the office.
Jason laid on the floor, unconscious, the basketball team had come to his side to try and wake him up, he soon regained consciousness. Relieved, I walked back to my seat and looked back to watch Eddie being walked to the principals. As if he knew I was watching, he looked back at me and smiled again. This feeling I felt in my stomach came back.
"Holy shit Heather, did you see that?" Jen slid over to me on the long seat of the cafeteria tables.
"Of course I saw that... Everyone saw that. Do you know what that was about?" I didn't want to come off as I was actually interested in the fight, but I had to have some idea of why Eddie got so violent.
Just as Jen was about to speak, Jason walked past our table, a bit dazed, "It just had to be all about you didn't it?".
What do you mean?
All about me? I haven't talked to Jason since summer, I don't know why he had to bring this to school, it was in the past, I told him it would be nothing more than a summer fling.
"Oh Heather!", Jen playful pushed my shoulder, she could tell that I wasn't going to budge getting some sort of answer about any questions she had regarding the comment Jason gave, "Look, all I know is that they were fighting over you, I heard your named being tossed around in Jason's circle and Eddie came up and I couldn't hear much else..." Jen looked to me as the look on my face was frozen embarrassment.
"Whatever was being said was over the summer, Jason shouldn't be going around saying shit about me." I said aloud, but inside I thought, why? Out of ANYONE in this school did Eddie fucking Munson have to start a fight because of me?
Jen and I finished up lunch and continued the classes for the rest of the day and headed back to my place on our bikes, it was a short ride from the high school to my place, Jen and I have been riding bikes together since 2nd grade, we have always rode our bikes to school every morning, having her as a neighbor across the way was super handy, especially when I needed someone to talk to. We always rode back to my place after school and studied or did something together. Today we decided to head to Steve "The Hair" Harrington's party, he had invited the upperclassmen to the party and we couldn't refuse an offer like that.
Jen had always preferred my style over her own, hell, half her wardrobe is full of my clothes that she has yet to return, we decided on what to wear to the party. I chose a white tank top with white-wash jeans and a black belt, with my hair naturally curly just below my shoulders, with light makeup on to make my eyes a bit more dramatic. Jen decided on a teal top and black shorts with dangling black earrings to top it off with her fringe bouncy and the rest of her long brown hair straight.
We biked to Steve's house, which was about 3 miles from my place, which wasn't too bad considering it was about 45 minutes and down hill. We arrived but 30 minutes late and the house was packed, we invited ourselves in and I went straight to the booze and Jen walked out side to the pool in the backyard to scope out who all was at the party so far. There must be around 80 people already at the party, Steve's house was a perfect place since his parents were out of town usually on business. I make my way to the living room area right before the entrance to the backyard, the music playing was perfectly balanced, not too loud but loud enough to dance till your dropped dead.
After some time of mid beer and cheap whiskey, I made my way upstairs to find the bathroom, this wasn't my first rodeo at a Steve Harrington party, so the bathrooms were a location I wouldn't forget. I stumbled on my way to the door. It was locked. I kept rattling the door handle until a man opened the door, he slammed it right after him so the bathroom door and I were sandwiching the guy. I couldn't make out his face because of how dizzy my vision had gotten.
"Hey Heather, fancy seeing you here." The voice was familiar, it was Eddie, with a cheeky smile on his face. We stood there for a while squeezed against the door, I could feel his breath move my wild hairs out of my face.
"So sorry about that, I really had to go." I smiled up at him. His features were so charming, his small smirk, his deep rich brown eyes, his hair, and his smell, the smell of the cheap whiskey and Hubba Bubba bubble gum. I backed up just enough to give him room to move. But he didn't leave, he stood there looking at me.
"Look about the fight today..." Eddie was starting to mention. Putting his hand on the back of his neck.
"Please don't apologize, I know it was about me." I teased him with a small chuckle. He finally moved out of the sandwich between the door and I, we stood there awkwardly in front of the door.
"Okay sweet, yeah I'm glad we are all good." He nervously said, it was obvious that he was holding something back, but he backed up and turned around too quick for me to talk to him much more.
You should've kept quiet and he would've probably told you why he started that fight.
