The Hufflepuff girls were awoken by a high-pitched scream coming from the 4th year dorm early in the morning.

Megan pulled a pillow over her head. "I know we have to get up for breakfast, but really, is the first day of classes that exciting?"

The four of them sat up, Hannah looking like she wanted to say that yes, the first day was indeed that exciting, but a look of realization came over Susan's face. "Maybe not... I think she must have gotten her soulmark," she said almost reverently.

The other three girls gasped and rushed out of their dorm and into the common room to find a large cluster of girls around a dark red-haired fourth year who was waving her arm around. Caelia caught sight of what appeared to be a tattooed clock on the girl's wrist. This, of course, was what was meant to lead her to her soulmate.

A few Hufflepuff boys began to groggily stream out of their hallway.

"What's going on?" a tired 6th year boy called out.

"Rosalie's got her soulmark!!" came the excited cry. This seemed to awaken some of the boys, as a few of them ran back into the hallway and dragged out a weary 5th year boy, who appeared to be Rosalie's boyfriend, as he jolted awake when he saw her. The rest of Hufflepuff shuffled out of the way to help them get to each other to compare marks.

Another scream-- then, "THEY MATCH!!", and the whole of Hufflepuff cheered as the couple--now soulmates--kissed passionately (sending a chorus of "ew!"s from the 1st and 2nd years and "awe!"s from nearly everyone else).

And then--"WHAT IN HELGA'S NAME IS GOING ON IN HERE?" came the powerful voice of Professor Pomona Sprout from the doorway to the Hufflepuff Commons. "I heard screaming!"

A 7th year girl stepped forward casually. "Sorry Professor, it's just that Rosalie Everton's got her soulmark and it matches with Damien's."

To Caelia's surprise, the professor's face broke into a wide grin. "Really? Ah, why that's wonderful! Carry on--just, maybe quiet down a bit, and don't be late for breakfast, alright?"

A chorus of "Yes, Professor Sprout!" filled the room, and the head of house left smiling to herself. Caelia, Megan, Hannah, and Susan returned to their room to change into their uniforms and re-emerged to head to breakfast.

The four girls followed just behind a 6th year prefect who was guiding them to the Great Hall.

Megan sighed dreamily. "Soulmates are so dreamy. I was so worried that they didn't have them in the Wizarding World, but I'm so excited to meet mine!"

Susan nodded contemplatively. "Those two certainly had an ideal situation. From what I've heard the majority of wizardfolk meet their soulmate at school, but it doesn't always go that well."

Hannah hummed in agreement. "Either way, it's pretty cool," she said as the prefect demonstrated how to switch to a different moving staircase. "What if your soulmate was in a different house?"

"Oh, that happened with my parents," Susan said. Caelia listened with interest.  "Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. They had double potions together."

"Is there anyone you want to be your soulmate?" Megan asked slyly. The other three girls giggled but refused to answer.

They had reached the Great Hall and began to serve themselves from platters of pancakes, English muffins, ham, and many other delicious options. Caelia pondered Megan's question as she spread jam on her toast. There wasn't anyone in particular she would want to be her soulmate. She supposed that if Harry was her soulmate it would be fine, even though they didn't like each other that way. There were plenty of people who remained platonic soulmates, but she would prefer to have one that she naturally fell in love with. Like they said, it was a bond like no other.
