Chapter Two

Another weird thing about my dreams is Aiden.  I’ve never met him, not sure if he is real or just a part of the dreams.  His name ironically means fairy, seems to me that’s what he is, he slips in towards the end of a dream and shows me how to avoid the bad things, like dying, unfortunately he only helps me not others.  He is mysterious; I’ve never seen him clearly.

As I lay in bed that morning thinking of the recent dreams my mind slipped to Aiden, wishing he was real. At least then I would have someone to talk to about them, the dreams maybe he could help me stop them.  Maybe I should try to talk to him in a dream if I can remember to, most dreams he is in are bad ones not the funny or incredible stupid ones. I can still remember my moms expression the last time the sleeping pills wore of, it was funny, and thank gosh it didn’t end badly.  She just had to stay on the bed till the pest control people caught the alligator that was under her bed.  That was hard to explain, considering no one could figure out where it could have come from. They decided it was someone’s pet. I wonder what they did with it.

“Vetta,” I heard my mom call from the other side of the door, “time for school.”

“Ok, be ready in a bit.”  No, I’m not some weird teenage who liked school but it was better then staying home. If I did that I might nap which would bring dreams that I didn’t want to deal with. School was the lesser evil and anyway Cullen would be waiting for me and I’m sure he will want to know that I’m ok.  He also has my coat and other shoe, at least he better. I called him last night and asked him to grab them on his way to school; I know he would be safe I dreamed it.  Lucky for me he is finally 16 and because of the lake accident he gets what ever he wants so he also has a car, where I don’t.

“Vetta, now! You’re going to be late.”

“I’m coming, I’m coming,” I said as I walked out of my room.

I had to walk today since Cullen was running my little errand, so I was almost late walking into first period as the bell rang.

I lived in a small town so everyone knew every one.  I sat next to Adie, we weren’t really friends but my odd style didn’t bother her, she still treated me like every one else, I wasn’t weird to her, just a human being that didn’t deserve to be treated like a freak. Most of the kids I went to school with avoided me like the plague; I dressed in dark clothing, had black dyed hair, and, I’ve been told, a bad attitude. But Adie was different; she was kind and friends with every one, which suited the meaning of her name, kind and noble.

“Hey Vetta, how was your night,” she said with a smile on her face.

“Uneventful,” I told her as I thought about the looks on the gang boys faces when I ran into the last night.

“Oh well you and Cullen should come to the party at my house this Friday?  You don’t have to if you don’t want to; it’s just something to do with my parents out of town.”

“I’ll think about it and ask Cullen.”

Cullen of course was no where to be found at lunch, closest thing to a friend I have and he can’t even eat lunch with me.  I decided to just eat outside in the courtyard.

The rest of the day past swiftly and before I know it I was headed outside to find Cullen lying on the hood of his car.  The boy has good taste in cars if nothing else; Cullen was my opposite in every way except in the car area.  He was his parents golden boy always wearing the newest and hottest looks; he had blonde hair, blue eyes and I would call his clothing style preppy. His car however was a 2012 Corvette, my favorite kind of car plus my namesake.

When Cullen saw me he jumped off his car laughing as he said, “it’s a bit cold out to not be wearing a coat.”  He walked over to his car and got my coat out of the car while tossing me my shoe. “So why were you in that part of town and what happened.”

“Lets go get something to eat and go to the park and I’ll tell you,”

Sitting on the swings about thirty minutes later, finishing off my marshmallow malt, I was trying to think of something to tell Cullen that was believable.  I couldn’t tell him the truth, even if he was my best and only friend.

“Well…?” Cullen prompted.

“I took a walk after school yesterday and got lost in thought, before I realized where I was I ran into the gang and they decided to chase me. I managed to get away through the alley but couldn’t fit through the end so I took of my coat then they grabbed my foot but I slipped off my shoe and got away.”  It was as close to the truth as I could get with out telling the truth.

“Vetta, I don’t know why you try and lie to me. I know you to well, so I know you’re not telling the truth, but I guess you tell me when your ready.”

Cullen always seemed to know something was wrong and when I was being dishonest with him.
