Susheela loved getting up early in the morning to see the sun rise high above her in the sky. She loved absorbing the new bundle of chill air in her open pores. The gentle rays of the rising sun would often dance in her hair and make them look like her hair were dipped in honey. She loved the quiet and peaceful air of calm around her, one that was hardly ever found in her house considering how her father was. But in these recent months, that too had changed. Her father had changed. He was more accepting, loving and caring towards her and her sister.
But getting up early in the morning today felt different. Because it was the day after her wedding was called off.
Susheela had cried herself to sleep in her balcony after Pramod had left her with harsh words and broken promises. For the first time in her life she felt so vulnerable and disturbed. Nothing, absolutely nothing has phased her this terribly in her life, but this, this was terrible! Never in a million years would Susheela have thought that she would cry herself to sleep over a guy. She couldn't believe that she had recklessly fallen in love with a man who proclaimed that he would never leave her but did exactly that. Again, was it his fault? No, absolutely not! But did she want to blame it all on him? Yes, because that's what everybody would expect from her. She must keep her act together at all times.
Susheela sighed and woke up to strech her muscles. Her whole body was aching with pain and discomfort. It was a beautiful morning, a very calm and sweet morning. She should've been waking up to this morning in her lover's arms, instead, she was here, all by herself. Susheela sighed and got up to freshen up. She went inside the shower and took a nice long bath to comfort herself. Her tears wouldn't stop even when she was trying her best to blink them away. They were overpowering all her senses.
Memories from last night flashed before her eyes, making her drown more in pain and guilt. Guilt of the things that she's been hiding in her chest and pain that she felt for all around her. She didn't want to react the way she did last night, but she had to, she had no other choice. Susheela laid her head back on the wall and closed her eyes as the water fell upon her sore muscles, making her feel a bit better.
Flashback -
"Susheela, beta trust me! Maine tumhare papa ke saath aisa kuch bhi nahi kiya hai.", Meenakshi Chautala begged in front of her soon to be daughter in law.
"Trust? Aur wo bhi aap par? Kyu karu main ye trust? Itna sab kuch ho jaane ke baad bhi aap mujhse expect karti hai ki main aap par trust karu? Mere papa kabhi jhuth nahi bol sakte!", Susheela yelled in Mini's face with tears in her eyes, tears of betrayal and pain.
"Susheela, meri baat sun-", Dharampal interjected but was cut off by his short tempered daughter.
"Nahi papa! Mere wajha se aap please kisi ke samne bhi haath mat jodiye. Koi jarurat nahi hai humein aise rishte ki.", Susheela said with a heavy heart. Her throat was getting dry and her heart was pounding in her ears, she felt numb but she had to do what she had to do. She couldn't just sit here and watch her father and family get humiliated and trashed by her future in laws. She had to pretend that her family was humiliated. That's what was expected of her, after all.
"Aapka matlab kya hai Susheela ji? Dharampal ji jhut bhi toh bol sakte hai na? Unhe toh humesha se humare rishte se problem thi, shayad wo isiliye ye sab kar rahe hai!", Pramod gritted his teeth, angrily looking down at the carpet on the floor.
"Kya? Tum kya bakwas kar rahe ho? Tum aise kaise mere papa pe ilzam laga sakte ho?", Susheela yelled, slightly shocked at the words that came out of Pramod's mouth.
"Oh, toh aap kuch bhi bakwas kar sakti hai mere mom ke khilaf par agar wahi sab main kahu toh galat? Aap ye har baar karti hai Susheela ji, har baar aapke family ne meri family ko hurt kiya hai, fir bhi mom aur dad ne kuch nahi kaha! Aur aap humein aise treat kar rahi hai?", Pramod asked with hurt lacing his voice.
