Eugene slept peacefully beside his wife, Rapunzel, blissfully unaware of what was coming in the next few minutes. Quickly, {and loudly} the doors burst open and Varian came running in.
"PRINCESS! EUGENE!"
"Huh, WHAT?" Eugene blurted as he and Rapunzel sat bolt upright at the sound. "I am NOT a Princess, Hair-Stripe!"
Varian ignored him and stopped at the foot of their bed. "I need your help!" He said quickly.
"Can't it wait until tomorrow, Goggles? I was right in the middle of a fantastic dream; I was having a wonderful hair day." Eugene said, starting to lay back down.
Rapunzel nudged her husband in the shoulder. "Eugene, we need to help him. Something I've learned about Varian is that you should never take it lightly when he says he needs help." She turned to Varian and yawned. "Although he could start needing help at better times."
Eugene groaned. "What is it, Varian?"
"_____ got in contact with a chemical while I was working, it changed her somehow, and now she hates my guts! She left and I've searched for her in hopes to make it right, but I can't find her! I've searched her house, the castle, the Snuggly Duckling, everywhere! What if she's in trouble now? It's awfully la-"
"Whoa, Kid!" Eugene said, stopping him with wide eyes. "That's a lot to take in at..." He checked his pocket-watch that he'd put on the side-table beside the bed. "5 AM!"
Rapunzel leaned forward. "You said she's somewhere out there now?"
"Yes! And if she's not in Corona, she could be in danger!"
Meanwhile, you were walking through Old Corona, Varian's village. You were trying to figure out what was wrong with you; you hadn't meant any of those words you'd told him, and yet, at the time, it was almost like you were compelled to say them. Almost like you were watching someone who sounded like you take over your body and wreck something you cared about..or someone.
You mulled it over in your mind, thinking of all the things you'd said; especially how you pretty much broke up with him in one sentence. You'd felt terrible, but didn't want to go see him.
After all, will I snap at him again? You asked yourself. Then you thought of something. Patting your sides in search of something in your pockets, you found a pencil and a pad of paper. Most likely you'd gotten them from Varian sometime, as you didn't usually keep writing materials in your pockets. You wrote something down and stuck the paper in between you and the waistband of your skirt so it stuck out.
Meanwhile; Varian, Eugene, and Rapunzel had been searching high and low for you all throughout Corona.
"Goggles, we've been looking for her for two hours now. I don't want to be rude, but can we search for her later? Like, after another couple hours of sleep?"
"Eugene, I need to find her as soon as possible." Varian told him as the three of them walked down a road that seemed deserted. "If for nothing else, then to help change her back to herself. Who knows what else that formula changed about her? She could be completely different. I know I wouldn't want to stay different than who I was."
"Yes." Rapunzel agreed with him. "And besides, love is at stake here."
"I'm going to help, of course. I just thought we could all use some sleep." Eugene said to Rapunzel. "Especially the zombie over there." He whispered, pointing in Varian's direction.
There was a fork in the road, and Varian, having seen something shimmer in the dust, knelt down on one of the two split roads. Rapunzel glanced over at him when Eugene called his appearance to her attention.
Varian's eyes had bags under them, from having not slept since the night before last. He was stumbly every now and then, and she noticed he kept rubbing his eyes and yawning a lot.
"Hey Varian, maybe Eugene's right. Maybe you should get some-"
"She's this way!" He called to them excitedly. He held up something sparkly. "Her earring! It shows that she must've taken this road!" He hurried down the path he'd found the piece of jewelry down, barely looking back at the royal couple.
"Yeah, he's not gonna listen now." Eugene said, smiling slightly.
"Nope, not gonna listen."
A/N: Kind of a short-ish chapter, but I wanted you to have some hope for Varian and ______, lol. Will he find her? Will she be able to tell him she didn't mean any of it, or will the serum take hold of her too much for him to understand? Find out next time in The Doom Scale: Part Three! Coming soon. :)
