I took a deep breath, and then passed the mouthpiece to Trish, then sank lower in the cage. Trish had to bend awkwardly because the hose wasn't long enough, but I was finally able to see what was up with her leg. There was a clean cut down the length of her right calf, which sliced right through the wetsuit. In the cold water, she had to be miserable, though that might have helped slow the bleeding. She had her dive belt secured right above it, and that seemed to be doing its job too, though the wound was still leaking blood. I also had no idea how long she had been down here, so she could be dealing with blood loss too. We took turns with the air supply as we surveyed the situation.

I straightened back up, and then looked toward the surface, just in time to see the cage from our boat drop into the water and start to sink slowly into the water. I could see two people in the cage, hopefully ready to help us get in and back to the surface quickly. I nudged Trish, and then pointed at the cage so she could see it. Waving my arms, I tried to make swimming motions so that she could understand that we would be swimming to the other cage. She nodded, but then looked at the sharks in the area.

Neither of us noticed the huge one behind us. At least not till it slammed into the cage.

That would be bad enough in a cage suspended by a cable. But since the cable to the cage was cut we were not attached to anything, and the cage went tumbling. I was thrown into the bars face first, which hurt like fuck! At the time, Trish had been breathing, and now the mouthpiece was just dangling while we both got tossed about. When the cage stopped, we were closer to where we needed to go, but the cage was on its side now, with the hatch facing the wrong way. I found the mouthpiece and took a quick breath before grabbing Trish and passing it over to her to take a breath.

The shark that hit us was now pushing us along the rocky ocean floor, reminding me of Titty when she would put her head in my slipper and push it about too. But with much bigger teeth. Unfortunately, it was pushing us away again! The suit that I'd put on up on the boat had a belt like Trish's, and a small knife on it as well. I pulled it out, and then slashed at the shark's nose where it poked through the bars. It didn't seem to do a thing, so I kept stabbing at it until it finally stopped pushing us and swam back upwards. Trish and I both sagged in relief, passing the air back and forth as we did. This was much worse than I expected, and right now I just wanted to get back up to the surface and hug Ava.

I looked around, trying to get my bearings, and finally saw the other cage, it was hovering right above the ocean floor, and the people within it were waving at us to come over. I tapped Trish on the shoulder, pointing at the other cage, and she nodded. It wasn't ideal, but we couldn't wait for the sharks to come back, and with two people sharing the air tank it was going to be used up faster. We had to run the risk.

We gathered at the top of the cage, looking about for that big shark again, when a sudden shadow clouded the water. We looked up, and I could see Trish's boat accelerating away, while a ton of blood was in the water. Did they just toss chum in to make the sharks go into a frenzy? I could see two other boats arriving next to our boat too, so maybe that was the maritime rescue people?

On the good side, all the sharks seemed to be swirling around up there at the surface where the blood was, and I grabbed Trish's hand and opened up the cage top. We both got out into the open ocean, and then kicked side by side towards the other cage. The two divers in there were waiting, with one of them at the top of the cage ready to open the hatch. We swam higher, and I couldn't help but notice that some of the other sharks were circling down, chasing little pieces of meat that were slowly dropping from the blood pool above. One came way too close, and we pressed ourselves up against the cage, before it circled back up.
