A Second Chance

Millions of miles away, Levi waited patiently. Unknowing of the danger Light faced. His heart ached, though he wasn't sure why.

Something... something feels wrong.

He shook it off. I'm being paranoid, Light is fine. He'll be back soon.

He brushed his hand along the grass, picking at it, plucking a dandelion in his reach. It had just bloomed, dainty petals soft to the touch. He smiled, relishing in the vibrant colors that registered in his vision, the pops and bursts of thousands of different hues he'd never seen before.

He smiled fondly, holding it up to Fern, who inspected it with a curious chirp.

"Dandelions are like mini Sunflowers, but fluffier! I made my first flower crown out of these, I can teach you how to make them sometime."

Light was everywhere, even in the simplest of things. His being threaded into Levi's memories, to the point where Levi couldn't remember the years, maybe even eons before they met.

An eternity together was one he eagerly awaited.

Light shuddered.

He felt neither empty nor full, peace in his mind and discord in his being. He felt everything and nothing all at once, and it was confusing as hell.

He opened his eyes; he didn't even realize they had been closed.

"Sun deity."

He looked behind him, slightly dazed, eyes widening at what he found.

Seven thrones stood before him and seated on each one a white silhouette; each one was different, some taller, some with a more masculine shape, and some with a more feminine one.

As he got closer, the silhouettes grasped more and more detail. They looked like people, though there was no guarantee that they were human.

The girl seated at the middle throne tilted her head curiously. Their emblems were almost identical, but instead of the sun, she had a cluster of stars. A long white dress flowed behind her, etched with gold, red, orange, and pink patterns along the rim. Golden hair fell gracefully around her face, framing it. She was not completely visible, ever so slightly transparent.

"Who are you? Where is this place?"

I forget that once united, deities and spirits take the memory of their human life."

She frowned, gesturing towards the thrones as the people seated on them watched, almost curiously. "I am the spirit of the star deity, and this... this is what we call the in-between. We are the spirits of the deities, an embodiment of our power if you will. We hold their place as Gods while they carry out their physical duties." .

"So... I'm the spirit world?" She grimaced. "Yes, but the point is you're not supposed to be. Your spirit and your body are fused when they should only be tied together. That's why you're here. Why you can see us." "Why is that a bad thing?"

"Sun deity, this only happens in two scenarios." Light nodded slowly, waiting for her to continue.

"When a deity is born, or when a deity dies.

He froze, and his heart dropped, a sinking feeling he wished he could ignore.

"I... I'm dead?"

"Dying, it looks like. Your physical body is no longer in any condition to be host to your spirit."

She sighed, leaning back."This is not the first time this happens. It happened a short while ago with the moon deity, though his visit was short and he wasn't in as much danger, and I guarantee he has no recollection of it."
