Oceans rise

We had won!
Defeated a school teacher at his own game!
I put the last two flags on the tree so the team poured what I believe to be apple blood.
The team pulled me in for a photo that would go on penstagram.
I wish I could tell you that's when I said "surprise! I was the golden guard this whole time and you all are to be admitted into the emperor's coven immediately and you will never see your family again!" But that would be dishonest.
And I don't want to lie to people who took the time to hear my story... so I won't!
What really happened was my world had just changed forever! And I didn't even know it.

"I can't believe I almost bailed on you guys,today was amazing! Thank you for giving me another shot." Hunter said while rubbing his shoulder.
"It's always nice making a new friend, I had an opening for one." Viney said while glaring at jerbo who gasped as soon as she said it.
"We wouldn't have gotten here without you." Willow said.
"Yeah, I shouldn't have been so suspicious." Gus added.
"Pssh we can forget all about that when we..." Hunter was saying before principal bump ran out onto the field yelling, "students, get in the school immediately!"
"What? Why?" Hunter asked mostly because he was pissed about being interrupted.
"There is important news from the emperor's coven." Bump said.
The students ran inside and so did Hunter.
When they got there, there were only like 20 students (probably less) there. Clearly not the entire class.
Hunter and the other entrails were standing in the back of the gym.
A projection of kikimora was on stage.
"Attention to everyone on the boiling isles, it hurts me to say that...." She paused to wipe away a tear (that Hunter knew wasn't there) "The Emperor has been murdered."
Gasps filled the gym and Hunter's ears started ringing.
"The murder has yet to be identified and the coven heads will be Discussing the next ruler, we should be announcing our decision Tomorrow afternoon. Tonight we mourn our emperor. And next week we will hopefully be crowning the next ruler." Kikimora finished and the projection vanished.
Students' worries spread around the room like wildfire, voices were loud and even the people couldn't understand one another because of the chaos.
Willow looked over to see if Gus was handling all the noises ok, when she saw Caleb!
'Caleb' ears were down, eyes were wide and completely unfocused, his whole body shook, he was barely breathing, and the only thing going through his mind was "he's dead, Emperor Belos was dead, his uncle was...." The thoughts stop when a hand touches his shoulder. He looked over to see Willow and he saw she was saying something but he couldn't hear it over the ringing and the student's panic.
Hunter ripped his arm out of her hold and ran out the door.
"CALEB!" Willow yelled and was about to follow after him when Gus stopped her saying, "no, let him go! it was probably too loud in here for him to handle it!"

"And what is there to discuss, kikimora?" Darius asked after she ended the feed.
"You're not seriously thinking of that brat as ruler are you?" Kiki said annoyed.
"Well the moment he became the golden guard we knew he was either going to rule after belos died or die before he could!" Adrain said
"If the boy cared so much for this empire why didn't he show up to this meeting?" Raine said, which made Tera glare at them.
"I'm sure the golden guard would've been here if he were invited." Darius said while glaring at Kikimora.
"Well it looks like we have a divided vote on the monarchy, so let's send for the boy to see if he can change any minds!" Tera said.
"I get him, he on a mission so it might take us a bit to get back." Darius said while heading for the door.
"I thought all the covenheads got the day off." Raine said.
"The prince may be a covenhead, but he is the golden guard first." Darius said right before leaving the room.

Darius went to hexside.
He felt bad. He shouldn't have sent Hunter on a mission like this. But what's done is done.
He went looking for him, luckily he checked the sports field first because that's where he was.
Sitting on the bleachers, tears dripping down his face, completely unable to stop sobbing.
"Little Prince?" Darius said as he got closer.
He looked up at him and wiped the tears off his face even though it was useless because the tears were replaced only a moment later.
"We need to get back to the castle." Darius said hoping Hunter's pride would be enough to compose himself long enough to at least get on the airship. It didn't work.
Hunter just sobbed even louder and he started clinging on to Darius clenched his cloaked trying to find Comfort.
Darius summoned Hunter's cloak and set it on him. That got Hunter to calm down just a little.
He composed himself just enough for him and Darius could walk to the airship.
Little did either of them know, someone was watching them.

Hunter started crying again only moments after the ship flew away from hexside.
And to Darius's surprise, a palismen was trying to comfort him.
Darius sighed, made an abomination to fly them home, and sat down next to Hunter.
They sat in silence before Darius broke it!
"So what's its name?" Darius said, looking at the palismen.
Hunter looked at the bird as if getting approval.
"Flapjack." Hunter answered.
"Where did you find it?" Darius asked.
"Latissa." Hunter said.
"Latissa? Did you get him the same time as your crash and Kikimora said you were dead?" Darius asked.
Hunter nodded, not sobbing at this point due to Darius giving him a good distraction.
Darius laughed and said. "Ok now you have to tell me the story."
"Well you see, it started with belos needing palismen...."
